Buying a used C5 - questions and concerns.
Recent research has shown that I can trade in my Mach 1 and get a C5 vert for just a little extra money out of pocket. To keep within my budget, the car I get will probably have 50-60k miles on it.
My primary question is which years should I be shooting for? I'm aware of the intake and manifold changes during the C5 run and am not too concerned there, as these parts won't stay stock for very long
However, should I try to stay away from the first couple years of the model to avoid bugs? Or are there specific things I should be looking for when inspecting the car, as it has a few miles on it.
Thanks for any help and recommendations you can make guys. I'm excited to be a Vette owner after being a Mustang freak for so long.

From my research, it seems that extended warranty is a VERY good idea, if you are not fix it yourself type. Some owners that have it, might be willing to transfer it for extra $$ when selling the car.

The thing that was appealing to me about the 99 was the fact that it had the biggest cam. It does have smaller injectors, but those are a dime a dozen. You should find a good 99 for around 20-23k

Well if it helps at all I recently purchased a 2003 Z06. I am immensly happy with it no problems I have been able to find. And I haven't heard of any issues with that year model. 2001 and 2002 I believe had oil consumption issues. Hmm of course this is Z06 related not sure on regular C5's.

Bought my '99 in Jan01, zero problems mechanicaly. Did the steering column recall about 6 mos after I bought it, and replaced a tire sensor last year. they are good for about 5-6 years I'm told, and usually crap out in colder weather when they get that old. so I'll be replacing all four with a new set of skins pretty soon. they sell for about $100.00 ea., (SDPC has the best price, so far) >>>>>>>>>>>>
plus installation. they can be had for less, but you gotta hunt for 'em. If you don't want to be bothered with them they can be deleted via LS1Edit, or some similar software from your computers memory. but you have four different tires on the car, so it's a pretty good idea to know whats going on with your tires, or if there is a problem loosing tire pressure.
