Default What is SW's typical drag setup?

I was talking to Tony on the phone, and he commented how SW has cut some 1.4's in his C5's... So naturally have some curiousity as to what he does with the rear suspension etc. Anyone?

The lower limit of a stock C5Z06 60' is 1.60.

Getting below that takes
(1) clutch with more clamping power and heat tolerance
(2) more engine power
(3) more rear gears
(4) higher launch rpm

So when you see fast 60' in a post or sig, look at the power and clutch and rear gears. Then consider the suspension set up.

To get 1.60 on a stock C5Z...stock engine and suspension and clutch
(5) MT ET Street Radials 2.75.40.17 at 22 psi
(6) launch rpm= 4600-5200
(7) fast clutch release
(8) then fast throttle squeeze
Yields 1.60-1.66 on a very well prepped track

Once you get a strong clutch, >rwhp, gears...then MT ET Street bias-ply will pay off with more tolerance for on-limiter launches. Capturing the inertia of the flywheel at the limiter on launch, that's the magic sauce of those getting 1.4X on a C5Z. But it won't happen without (1) (2) (3) and (4)

So the fast 60' is more than a traction issue.

BTW I had a scad of low 1.6X 60' on a bone-stock C5Z with CAI and the MT Radials. No breakage. But if you start the path toward lower 60' than I got, you'll need to do the hardening of the rear.

Phil97SVT has cut numerous 1.4X 60's in his M6 coupe. Shoot him a PM.

I believe on his 427 C5 they did some serious stuff...auto as well?

Like mentioned, PM him, he is a really nice guy (local here as well).

The one he runs 9.XX's in is here on MTI's homepage: (top left)

From what i remember, SW's 9.98 second pass (back in 2001) was running an MTI 422ci with 135 shot of NOS, a mcleod twin disk clutch, 3:73 gears, with drag slicks....all in a 6-speed. He later up'ed the NOS and lowered his ET. As for the rear shocks i don't know if they were stock or aftermarket.

Well since I did some of the work on that car I wil chime in. The rear and front shocks were stock. The only thing that was done, the front sway bar was removed and that thing was SLAMMED (I hated putting that car on the rack ) . He had a MTI 422 solid roller with about 250 hp worth of N2O when the car went the fastest. He was running a McLeod twin disc for a clutch

Default What is SW's typical drag setup?

As far as C5's go, I have cut many 1.4-1.5 60 ft times with my best being 1.451. My car is a 2000 coupe with 346 ci, heads, cam, intake, TB, gear, converter, CCW drag pack (ET Streets and skinnies) and ALOT of tuning. The suspension is stock, only lowered 1/2 inch. As far as manual 346 C5's go, I believe that Robz has cut a 1.41 60 ft time.
