Default Supercharged C6 vs. stock Z06

Okay, I know it sounds like a total noob question, but hear me out.

I've been really looking at a 2007 C6 and I've come to the conclusion that I just can't afford the Z06. I think honestly I'd rather have a blown car anyway since I'm at 6000 feet and boost helps a TON here. Here's my question... I'm sure that I can get more than 500 hp if I supercharge the normal C6. Will I be able to do that reliably and streetably and will the stock six speed drivetrane handle the power?

I know the Z06 is lighter and has a wider stance and all, but how much is the handling difference?

if you boost a c6 you should be way over 500hp if do it right and chage out your fuel system but you dont got to. you should have no problem beating a c6 zo6 with a supercharger and good t/c and gears. also depends a lot on how good of driver you are and how good the driver in the zo6 is also.

I got the opportunity to run against a stock C6 Z06 on a race track (Road Atlanta) in my magnacharged C6. My car makes about 550 rwhp on pump gas.

while I'm sure his car would probably handle a little better in the curves compared to my Z51, he didn't get that chance since he got left behind in the straights

I understand that it'll require more than just a supercharger to make a reliable car. I'm a veteran jeeper, so I understand drivetrane upgrades are a necessity. How hard can it be to install the Z06's rear end? is that just stupid expensive? What's the usual replacement that people like? Does that f-up your traction control or anything?

i would just do a gear swap for the rear end the rear end should be strong enough to handle the power. if you also add a good blower cam your car would be a beast.

The stock C6 rearend is pretty weak, several guys have busted the casings with stock power at the track. DTE offers modified and upgraded rear differentials, along with braces. http://www.dynotech-eng.com

Z06 rear won't fit on a regular C6. You would probably need the Z06 tranny too.

i have heard c6 z06 owners busting there rearend at the track also. it has happend a couple times at the track by where i live. if you wanna do it right you are looking at around 10k or more depending on what all you want.

He's right about the 10k or more. I'd shoot you an estimate but im a 12 hour drive for you to get the work done. Check out our last C6 we just did i posted in here about. It made around 640ish to the wheels.

Ok, in my Vette club, we have 3 Z's, and we have 3 supercharged C6's, two with magnacharger, and 1 with the procharger. On dyno day the Z's made 440rwhp, 450rwhp, and 420rwhp. All made the same 420ftlbs of torque. The two magnacharger guys made 460 to 470hp at the tires, and the procharger made 520rwhp. One Z guy has non-runflats and is running 285front and 345 rear tires, the other two were stock. The supercharged guys all had non-runflats in the 295 to 305 size rears. All the supercharged guys were making more torque, and more hp than the Z06, and were smoking them at the track, except for the guy with the 345 rears, he ran about .3 seconds faster average than the guys with the runflats. Imagine that, but was still slower than the supercharged guys. The guy with the procharger has about 30,000 miles with his setup so far, and is otherwise completely stock, runs drag slicks, and has not had any problem with his diff or tranny. There are about 5 guys in the group that had problems with their rear ends, and all of them were pretty much stock.

I do not believe that Chevy has these vehicles all dialed in the same. I have had no problems but with my older 2003, I busted the diff twice stock, and fried the tranny once. GM has also for 2006 changed the design of the rear diff, but still has proven to be no stronger than the last one. Dynatech is still champ in that area. The supercharged vettes were nicer since they were quiter, and handled almost the same with these guys suspension upgrades, plus they still had the targa tops, and the procharge guy is convertable, and he is the second fastest in the Vegas Vette club. The fastest is a 90 C3 with a large single turbo and nitrous that makes 680rwhp.

Take into consideration just the cost of insurance on the Z06, and I tell you my modified 05 is a better deal. $40,000 used with 13000 miles, Headers, cam, fast intake, catback, K&N intake, and tune is putting 433whp, and 425wtq. Bilstein shocks, Z06 springs, ACE rims with 265front and 305 rear Michilins, and I pull well over 1G's in the corners. Just some Z06 brake upgrade, and my total cost will be $10,000 in mods, and my car will be complete. I pay $80 a month in insurance, plus after dynomatting the entire interior, my ride is the quitest sports car I have been at 80mph in. Oh yeah, don't forget I still got my targa top.

But don't forget, mod a Z06 just a little bit, and he will eat me for lunch! If you got the money, just get the Z06!

I've kicked around getting a C6 Z06, but they are still like $68-72K.
