fastest on video is 165mph but have been a lot faster. passenger(cameraman) called it quits when the road went from asphalt-concrete-asphalt and the car felt a little unstable. all in control but its not fun when you have those pesky butterflies in your stomach after.

i did not have a cam but i got my 99 C5 up to 170 ish hard to see the marks and watch the road, may have been around 175. It started to feel unstable with the road I was on so I backed off. I usually top my cars off, but not the Corvettes, I usually run out of road not power. Had my 00 C5 up to 160 all the time lol. Have yet to go past 120 in the C6 though

I can hear the BS claims now, but 200 mph on several occasions. I have a video of me doing around 190 on the eway, go watch it for yourself. I ran out of room or I would've hit 200 that day. Anyways 6750 rpms in 5th with 3.42 rear = 200 mph

What a rush!

I'm not calling BS at all because I believe you, but do people factor in wind resistance when they calculate top speed for certain gears? That's just something I've always wondered...

Default Top Speed

I've taken mine to 160ish a handful of times. Last week me and my buddy ran it up to 170-175 in 5th and I let up. Unfortunately I wasn't paying attention to the tach but I'm sure I was almost out of gear. I have a video from my 1999 SS pulling through 160 hard. Video is a little bumpy but I'll try to locate it.

Default Hard to believe

allngn_c5,
I question your 200mph claim on a couple of fronts and I think that I have the background to ask these. I am the tall guy in NattaSS's picture. I have driven miles above 200. So I do know what it takes to go 200. 1. With your hp I think you are a little short. My car has 598rwhp. I will grant you that you don't have the downforce to over come that I do. I am not attemping to just touch 200 but to run for distance. This brings me to #2. These car get pretty light and squirly at those speeds. I ran my car without a wing or spoiler and it was all over the road. I will grant you have a C5 and it is probably better then the C4. Also without the downforce in the rear and having the air dam on the front the car was trying to stand on its nose. I would like to say again I am just questioning no calling BS.
Jeffy'

P.S. here is a pic to keep in mind when you are going for top speed runs. This is what happens when you lose a tire at 204mph. We had no impact, all the damage you see is from the tire explosion.

So if I don't post a vid, then I have to die. That's funny. I do have a video of me flying just over 190 mph. Unfortunately no speedo shots because the camera was on a tripod. Not many volunteers willing to push the limits like that from the passengers seat, and stay composed and keep the camera still.

The video is called allngn_c5 hitting 190+ on my way to work.

Shoot me an email and I will email you the thread.

As far as your blow out damage that was pretty enlightening. Makes me think twice about running like I do. I know that run flats don't have near the potential for blowouts as those DOT street slicks. Properly inflated the Z-rated funflats are the perfect tires for 200 mph runs.

Side note, never once did I mention that I run 200 mph for a long time, I said I touched it and let off immediately. You take a C5 with functional ram air, u/d pulley, a Meziere EWP, AFR heads, G5X3 cam, the best headers out there LG's pro long tube headers and a great tune, plus any unmentioned bolton available then you can definately wind out to 200 mph. Like I said I have done it several times. Ultra light carbon fiber driveshaft, and not to mention the rest of the drive line is light weight with top speed in mind.

Hope no one was hurt when you guys had that blow out. Thanks for the pics. What kind of air pressure were you running? I inflate to 38 psi as directed on the speed/tire pressure scale to compensate for the downforce created at that kind of speed. I was wondering were you under or over inflating, or did you catch some debris?

Quite impressive, 206 mph !!!! It's mathematically impossible for my car to do that. I would've run out of gear in 5th and 6th isn't usable at those kind of speeds. Not to mention the car feels extremely loose as you get beyond 190 mph.

How much do you think the C5R front spoiler is going to help my stability issues?? Don't really want a rear spoiler. I like my cars rear end the way it looks too much now.
