2003 C5 Z06
I currently have a 2004 GTO. Mods are in my sig. I found a 2003 C5 Z06 with 7400 miles on it. I know the Corvette is lighter than my car, but will it be faster than the GTO in a straight line? Is it worth trading the GTO for the Corvette?

It’s hard to say. A decently driven stock Z06 will run 12.0 in the ¼. With your mods I suspect your car is quicker than that. It sounds like you have a very nice GTO. The Z06 is an awesome car. You can’t go wrong either way. Go drive the Z06 and you should be able to decide which you like best.

I found the test results for one that Motor trend tested back in 2003. Their best 1/4 mile time was 12.9. I'm going to go and driveit on Saturday and see if I like it. With a cam and a nice set of heads I could have thatvette moving a lot faster than 12.9. Thanks for the responses guys.

....but Motortrends article said the best they could get was a 12.9 on the stock 2003 Z06 they tested. 12.9 is = to a stock 05/06 LS2 GTO. But thats strange because the GTO is around 5-600 pounds heavier than the Corvette. With the amount of money I have spent on my GTO modding it, its a high 11's low 12's car. With similar mods the Vette would be scary. The only thing is if I get the Corvette I won't have the $$$ for some time to mod it.

Bone stock c5z will run into the 11s with the right driver, who ever posted that 12.9 doesn't have a clue what they are doing.
Please look here for the best c5z results, just look at the stock times:

Go to www.corvetteforum.com and spend some time. There's a great driver over there who goes by the name Ranger. He ran 11.8 I think on DRs bone stock at Capitol Raceway no less. He now is driving a red C6Z and is really close to 10s stock with DRs. My Z is stock except for a Callaway CAI and with the Nitto tires I have on it I guarantee it's faster than a stock GTO.

If you want to go H/C and gears on the Z06 you are talking a solid 10 second ¼ mile car.
The best thing you can do is go drive the Z06 Saturday (and be sure to let us know your impressions).

He should know. His H/C & headers coupe is faster than a stock Z......

Besides the performance numbers, the zo6 just feels like a COMPLETELY different animal. The GTO is a luxury sports car compared to a zo. The zo6 is soo light and nimble it just feels completely different. You'll see when you take a test drive. Make sure you hold the active handling button down for 8 seconds after you start the car

get the Z06. It's an amazing driving expierience. It has a race car feel to it unlike any other car ive driven. Even stock it's an animal and probably will be just as fast as your gto currently is. Plus you can say you have a Z06

It rained on Saturday so I didn't go. I was thinking about going today, but its raining today. If it stops and drys out then I'll go. Its not worth going if I can't drive it how its ment to be driven.
