Default clutch issuse

i have an 2001 ML 6-speed vette with cam and headers just picked it up last night... i bought it from a dealer so i don't know the specs on the cam i am going to be buying a matched set of ls6 ported heads and a cam out of my buddies t/a that ran 11's all motor

ne way my issue... when you get on the car sometimes especially if you come off the line hard the clutches sticks near the floor and you have to wait a couple seconds and it will return... i dont think the clutch is stock but i cant tell i have to tear this car down over the winter to see whats what...

so what i was wondering is this a hydralic clutch? could it need fluid or just to be bleed(sp) out? or is the slave cylinder going to ****?

I'm a proud vette owner now and i hear that the vette comunity is like no other when it comes to lending a helping hand and some advice so what ever info you all can give me i would be glad to hear it

thanks Ryan

Its hard to tell you whats excatly wrong with out seeing it for myself ya know, but It sounds like you might have a Slave going out on you. I say first check the Fluid levels, then try to bleed the clutch. If it keeps acting up then get it looked at.

You need to do the Drill Mod. Search for it.

Usually when they stick to the floor its cause the clutch is melting and getting stuck. Mine Camaro did that after a 180 shot

From what im told... the hydraulics (Salve cylinder and master cylinder) are weak in the '97-'01 cars. You are basically overpowering the hydraulics when you get good traction. I was told I need to upgrade to a Mccloud Adjustable master cylinder and any slave cylinder out of an '02 or better car. Mine did the same thing yours did, but I had fair warning from my LS guru and wasnt really worried when it happened.

First things first, try and bleed the system, C5 hydraulics are notorious for overheating which results in particulate build up and decreased fluid efficacy. Try to find a good DOT 4 compiant fluid, ATE Super Blue or Motul 5.1 are popular choices.

The lines on the hydraulics aren't heat shielded on the C5 like on the F-Body, this also contributes to the failure. If the problem has existed for awhile without any maintenance, your hardware may already be too far gone, in which regularly bleeding and swapping fluids may be your only salvation (may still act up). Some people have had problems in only their M/C or their S/C and replacement of each respectively fixed their problem.

1) Bleed it with good DOT 4 fluid, that's the cheapest easiest thing to do
2) If that has no effect, you can diagnose whether it's a M/C or S/C issue, though the M/C is MUCH easier to replace, and cheaper (I can provide a part source that blows away any GM price).
3) To change out the slave, you have to drop the rear cradle and full drivetrain... NOT FUN. This would be the last thing to do, it's not too costly, but such a pain
