Default C5Z06 Vs. Saleen sc?

My hospital manager is a saleen person, and she just downloaded a thread from her mustang forum where there is a one sided debate on whether a
02-04 Z06 is faster than a Saleen sc. I don't dislike saleen mustangs, and if there weren't about 5 kazillion 6 cylinder mustangs out there that have a very similar appearance, I'd like them even more. However, stock vs. stock, I just can't imagine that a saleen sc would beat a C5Z06. has anyone had any experience with one. Any input is appreciated!

I lost to an 06 Saleen, but it was partially my fault. I raced him after class, and my car had been sitting for a couple hours. My tires were cold and I spun way too much. He got traction and beat me by a length when we shut down. I was catching him quickly though.

The only Saleens that you might have to watch out for are the S7 and the S 281-E.

The rest are all jokes. Though Im not upto speed on the latest iteration. Are they still just a GT with a roots blower slapped on?

The 05's had appx 400 flywheel HP with the sc kit. Even then, their wt is quite a bit heavier than the z, right? With that being said, I wouldn't think that they would stand much of a chance (stock vs. stock) with equal drivers.

Well not sure on what year this Salleen was at a dyno day, but he put out 345rwhp. He said he was stock. That same day my 99 t/a with just LT's and ORYP put out 326rwhp. So I am pretty sure if they are stock vs stock a stock C5 Z06 will walk away from a S281.

I believe the S281-E's had even more hp, like 500 or so, but only a handful were out there. Plus they were just insanely expensive.

They are pretty slow. Heck, the new Shelby can't even beat an 02-04 stock.

According to the magazines, the Z is faster, as is the C6s. The newer 500hp sc 'stangs aren't quite as fast as the '03-'04 because of the weight. They are reported at 12.7.
Now, as for the "stock" part.. $60 buys them a 2.8 in pulley and gains 50rwhp. ouch. They definitely haul azz, but I agree.. there are TONS of the 6 cylinder ones running around to tarnish their "road warrior" appeal for me.

I've had two experience with saleens real ones though not the wannabe saleen gt these where S281's.One of them were like the 99-04 body style it was yellow and I actually got to see the sc.The other one was the 05 style it was kind of a greenish sliver with like 19's or 20'sh type wheels real concept looking like he had three girls with him though.I walk on both of them about the same way.it was kind of a close race but not to close on the 05 I missed a shift and he cought me up and was beating me by a fender and still pass him again. These runs for up to like 155mph.All I have is a 00 c5 M6 with flows and a diablo sport programer.

I was riding shotgun in my friends z28 a few years ago and we encountered an S281 SC on an open highway. The Z28 had a lid and longtubes, and was an A4 with the stock stall. We had the Saleen by about 2 car lengths 45-130. A C5 z06 would have no problem with an s281 sc.

THe S281-E costs as much as a damn house, but it comes with the built motor. You can get some real power out of them, although pretty much every saleen model in existence was made to look silly when the 03 Cobra hit the streets.

I have dynoed quite a few 05+ Supercharged Saleens and the base blown car did right at 400rwhp. Unless they really tuned them down they are making as much to the wheels as they claim at the crank.(Way better than the previous generation)

They are still heavy and I would give the win to the C5-Z06

Well the 05+ sc saleens are quite a bit slower than 03-04 cobra and stock for stock a z06 can edge out the cobra with equal drivers. The likely hood it is a s281e is slim they run about the same as an c6706. They make 550hp and just over 500lb tq so unless it's a s281e you should be good.

I have owned and driven all above cars except the saleen E and there is not a big difference between the E car and the Saleen SC car...The Stock C5z should walk all these cars with a good driver...and as far as the C6z thats an insult to compare that with the E car....you show me a E car that has even come close to high 10's with just drag radials

Only Saleen I've played with was an 06 but I'm pretty sure it was NA. I walked the guy on the freeway by about 4 cars. He sure thought he was cool though. This was with just the intake and catback, didn't have the headers yet.

Offer to personally prove the saleen crowd wrong.

What a joke, when my 2.73 a4 c5 was stock I beat up on saleens. The terminators are the real threat, and i've lost to a few. Saleens are impotent.

It was the SC version. Most of the GTs' 01-04's were putting out 230-250 rwhp, depending on stock or some mods. This was on a Mustang dyno.

The odds of this person having a E model is going to be slim to none. Mostly investers and collectors have them. Like the one guy said, more than a house!!!!

The new style 05-07 saleens are underpowered compared to the Shebly GT500's that are out. They look cool to a certain point, but then think they are just too overdone.

I appreciate all the input fellas. Thanks too for not misinterpreting this as a hate on Ford thread either. I'm definitely a GM guy, but since ford came out with the 03+ machs and cobras...they have my respect.

So basically, sounds like the C5Z Vs. the Saleen s/c would end in a vette win all things being equal. That's what I thought, but after reading the input from the other forum, I was beginning to doubt...my bad!
