Default vette or ls2 gto

leaving for boot camp in 10 days, got rid of my truck today, and got rid of all other bills so i will be saving like mad during my Basic and tech school...looking to buy late in the year
LS2 Gto M6 or a 01-02 z06 or 01-03 reg vette
i should have enough saved for a pretty good downpayment or use that money for mods
if you vette guys did it again would you buy vette or go for the much newer gto?

Bit of advice from a service member thats been in a while (10 years) when you get ready to do this, BE CAREFUL. Wherever you are stationed car dealers prey on new military members with money to burn, i highly recommend you either buy from a dealership outside of the area of base you are at, or of course from a private seller.

Hmmm.... from that list I'd say 01-02 Z06. Especially if you are still single and don't need the rear seats of a GTO.

i posted this in both the gto and vette forums....interesting...each forum is very partial
i'd like to see the trunk space of a z06 since theres no hatch it looks like theres a decent amount of room in there...never really seen the trunk of a frc or a z06....possible a golf bag would fit?

yeah, i'm pretty sure a golf bag will fit... there's a considerable bit of space. i actually think overall (without a partition) there may be a BIT more room than an fbody

Well, you are going to see that each forum is going to rule out the other one and be partial to the car they own. I like the GTO (LS2) and the power they offer, but the VETTE is it, the total package and trust me chics dig the VETTE, it gets more heads turning and is a hot car, has been for over 50 years, the new GTO just doesn't do it the same way.

If you want a toy buy the Z06, if you want something a little more practical then go with the GTO. Both are fine vehicles.

Drive 'em both, the right choice will be easy
Got my first Vette three months ago, and I now understand the loyalty that Vette drivers possess. By the way, most Vette owners have owned other Vettes, the same cannot be said of GTO owners.

Corvette trunk is probably a bit bigger than a GTO trunk, thanks to the fuel tank taking up about half of the GTO trunk. Corvette will also get slightly better gas mileage due to being lighter and more aerodynamic.

I sold my '04 GTO to get my '02 ZO6 and you would be happy with either. I just always wanted a ZO6 so when my friend wanted my GTO I jumped at the chance. The interior of the GTO is a lot better than the Z and the GTO is easier to work on. It's something to consider if you plan on modding with exception to doing an aftermarket shifter which is a must for a GTO. The Vette is better in every other regard though. You are very limited to rear tire size in the GTO without rolling or cutting the fender lip. The dash is nicer in the GTO but lacks a lot(like oil pressure!!) but I fixed that with an aeroforce interceptor gauge. GTO's are a lot heavier so if you do similar mods to a vette and a GTO the vette is always going to be faster. Hope this helps, I loved my GTO(partly because all the mods I did to it-everything was done myself) but I LOVE my ZO6.

if you are into sleek lines in a car then get the Z06, plus your starting at more hp out the factory and great aerodynamics
