Drag Race Tips for 07 Z06
Ok, I read through the launch technics of Ranger and some of his other posts and here is what I can gather so far. I am not sure if some of this is c5 specific so any help or corrections would be great.
Keep temps at around 190-195
Stock tires front @ 40psi
Stock tires rear @ 28psi
Launch at around 2800 rpm and adjust 200-300 rpm for the sweet spot.
ease cluct out and apply throttle after wheels have stuck. Apply throttle smoothly without a stab or drop.
Don't do a full power shift 1-2
Power shift 2-3 and 3-4 (I have been comming through the traps in 3@120)
I don't know how to get to competitive driving mode so I have been holding the button till active handling and traction control are both off.
I am going to a track rental day tomorrow and plan on working on all these things... I gather that hot lapping is no issue for launch work; however, I have seen it takes a while to cool my car down once it hits 205. Has anyone used that cooler pack thing that sits on the intake? Is it worth the money?
Thanks again for any help and or corrections.

I thik if you press the active handling button, you can scroll through the few options to competitive mode.
I hear the cool packs can be effective, although I have no personal experience with them myself. I belive you can change the inside coldparts(bladder) of the system but, I would imagine they wouldn't last very long.
As far as the cooling is concerned, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get yourself to a local tuner for LSx vehicles in your area to have the fans come on sooner, and have the fuel trims adjusted. Or if that isn't possible, get yourself a hand held programmer like the Diablosport Predator. You can log data, and adjust your when your fans actually come on. Great tool, I use it all the time. We dynoed one of my buddies C6 Z06's, which is bone stock, other then the programmer, it made 480rwhp. I'm sure I can get the graph if needed.
Anyways, have fun with the car man. I'm sure you couldn't go wrong following rangers directions.
Peace out.

Well I went to the track today and had a blast... Started off ok but by the end of the day I was running in the 11.70's pretty consistantly.
Best pass was as Follows:
Reaction .7681
60' 1.7957
330' 5.0330
ET @ 594' 7.1539
1/8th 7.6280
1/8MPH 94.91
1/4 ET 11.7029
1/4 MPH 119.65
Best ET of the day was the 11.70 and the best MPH was 121. the 1.79 was the best 60' as well.
Pretty happy overall... I was at Kil-Kare raceway in Xenia Ohio.
Track temp was 117
Temp was at 92 although the temp guage in my truck said 125
Humidity was at 68-70 most of the day. It actually started raining and we had to call the day early.
I am still coming through the traps at the top of 3rd gear though... I think I need to adjust when I shift or something. Oh well I had a blast

Nice pass at 11.70. And fine 1.79 60'.
Suggest rear psi at 25 hot.
Traction System Off. One push of the console button.
Fast shifts but no powershifting. The PCM's Torque Management will punish powershifts.
Shift point is clutch-in at 7000. Your traps and ETs will improve with better shift points.

Thanks Ranger. I actually searched out as many posts as I could from you. I tried to do as many of the things you did as possible.
I did power shift some of my shifts and wondered if that was hurting me.
I also pushed the button and held it to turn off active handling and TC. Should I leave the active handling on?
When you do you burnout do you turn them both off or just the TC?
25psi hot is a chore as you know... it seems like I'm under till I do the burnout and over after... have to find that sweet spot.
I will try next time without any powershifts and hopefully I will be able to get better traps. I put in a ripper and think it is not as good as the stock shifter.... I shifted faster with the stock one. I may switch back.

Traction System Off is what you want. That allows the wheels to spin but keeps Active Handling available in it aggressive form to help keep you off the wall should the rear get loose. All-Off is a big risk with zero reward. Ditto Competitive Driving mode.
I set the rears to 25psi hot before each pass. No hassle involved. PSI tends to rise and get uneven side-to side.

Thanks... I was pretty happy with the pass. I also had some other passes in the 11.70's but the 11.70 was the best. Most of the 60's were in the low 1.8's. I will be going out again next weekend to finish off the clutch. Then off to the dealership to get a new one.
Love that warranty. I am up to ~2200 miles on the car now.

I have 73 pass on the C6Z clutch and it's still doing fine. My recommendation is to not change any clutch unless it's confirmed to be slipping.

Good running! Like Killemall said, better air and you will be running even better.
A lower gear will improve clutch life. Not nearly as much slippage required at launch. Not to mention improved ETs, with traction of course.

I will try that first Ranger. It appears to be shakey now when I drive around. I am not that experienced of a 6 speed driver so I may have caused problems learning how to launch it.
I figure for the money I may as well try the clutch fluid protocol. At least I won't have to worry about the dealership joy riding in my car.

Went to the track yesterday and had a bit of fun....
Best pass:
1.83 60'
11.37 @ 124
Best MPH of the day was 126 but had a 2.15 60' so didn't get so hot of an ET.
