What is the best cam that I can get for a stock Z06 without head work? I have the regular bolt ons. Exhaust, Intake, Etc.

G5X3 MagicStick3 or similar. The MS3 is slightly larger than the G5X3.

It's not always about going huge and considering it the "best" for a Zo6...

Both of the cams listed above will require full bolt ons/supporting mods including going steeper on the rear gears to 3.90 or 4.11 (big $$$ on a C5 diff swap)

You've got weeks of reading if you look in the Internal Engine section...

You might want to shop around though. Just my 2 cents.

The Ms3 is way to big. You can make the same power with alot smaller cam and keep drivability bearable

x2...

A 228/232 .580ish lift on a 112LSA is what I'm thinking about with mine. You can keep your stock gears, minimal cam surge, and much better on longevity compared to an MS3.

I doubt you'd be really pissed off with the specs above, bigger than that and get your wallet ready for upgrades (diff, clutch, valve spring changes, etc)

224/224 was a great cam for me...

my 100% bone stock c5 auto 2.73 gearrs...

13.5 at 102-103 consistently

same track in same hawaiian weather after installing stock 2002 LS6 heads and stock LS6 cam...

13.2 at 105-107 consistently

Then changed the cam to a 224/224 at the same track and same year long hawaiian conditions ran a.....

12.9 at 107-110 consistently

So the 224/224 was worth 3 mph and 3 tenths over my stock 2002 Z06 cam..

Still ran/idled like a stock car to boot

I call Bullshit on the gear change sorry. You DON'T need to upgrade gears. A stock 3.42 diff is PERFECTLY fine.. especially in a Z06 with an M12 trans. It has steeper gearing than a standard MN6 C5. An M12 in a Z06 is like having 3.90s with a MN6. Haha... yup I have an X3 on a 112LSA with an MN6 and 3.42's and it's perfectly fine. Daily driven for over 2 years now. I know others with VERY similar setups. with perfect drivability.

I personally know of an 03 Z06 locally with a MS3 and 3.42's. No headwork, just headers and intake. It made 420rwhp perfect drivability. TUNE is IMPORTANT!!!

Car doesn't need headwork. He mentions full boltons which I assume should include headers. Thats ALL he needs.

It's really up to you.. If you want a raspier type cam, then go for it. If you want a ***** cam, then do a 224 cam. It's all up to you.

Car will make over 400rwhp without headwork with a larger cam.

umm, your wrong. you cant make the same power with smaller cams, otherwise NOBODY would by the MS3 and bigger.

If tuned properly the MS3 is very liveable, and you do not NEED gears for it, i highly reccomend it

I see your MS4 and raise you one Grand Am Cup cam: 239/251//578/578//106

I agree with Eurospec2. One can use a 'big' cam in a car if it is tuned well. Since the cars has ZO6 heads, I would go on the larger side 229/229/580ish/580ish//112 to 232/232//580ish/580ish//112. If you do mind a little lope, drop the LSA down to 111 or 110 and drop the power band in RPMs.

I've had a 224 series cam, AND a 236 series cam in my personal cars.... along with plenty more..

You're head's in your azz if you think a 239+ duration cam is going to be the clear choice for all people. There's a hell of a lot more involved to make it drivable than "GOOD TUNING" unless you're a mullet mechanic.

What would John Lingenfelter say when building "top-shelf" daily driver Corvettes for his customers? What are the typical cam specs he uses?

I'm sure Lingenfelter says, "It's really up to you.. If you want a raspier type cam, then go for it. If you want a ***** cam, then do a 224 cam."

Seriously, I just checked back on this thread for a quick second...

I'd get sarcastic,(for fun) but I've got a person coming in to sell me his '88 Anniversary with 29k miles- he'll be here in less than 20 minutes and I need to set up the check/papers.....

and right after that set up the financing for the guy buying an '02 Lingenfelter supercharged/modded coupe at the end of today before he has to drive it back to South Carolina.

I'm no expert, but I'm not a ***** either, I'll gladly dispense my version of mullet tech if you'll let me know what you need solved....

In a couple hours I'll have some time.

LOL...I'm running a "***** cam". MTI C2 cam...224/224/581/112 LSA. Before the MTI stage 2E heads were installed, it was over 400rwhp. It's a good "baby" cam for street use and puts out good rwtq.
