Default Trans problem

About three weeks ago I went out to a hang out spot to do some racing. I got a few races and on one of them it did not go into 3rd gear. It would grind pretty bad. I drove home and even on normal driving it would grind in gear. I never had a problem missing gears but I did start to have a problem going into 3rd or 4th. I thought it was the clutch. I spoke to Ranger before the trans thing and he said it sounds like the clutch was getting hot and making it hard to go in gear. We thought it was from how I launch(high rpm and a long ride of the clutch) But now it sounds like the trans. My questions are what usually happens when the trans goes and what usually happens when the clutch goes. Thought I would be able to get it covered under warranty from the dealer that I bought it from but after reading the fine print I know they will not cover it. It looks like I will be buying a new clutch and getting the trans fixed.
