Default Very Low AIT's = big kick in the SOTP !!!

Hey everybody !!! I haven't been on here much, cars been in storage and Michigan weather doesn't allow me much oppurtunity to get the car out in the winter. Not even for a quick run around the block. Anyways I am running on fumes from starting her up weekly to keep the battery charged and fluids circulated, so I decide to let her warm up and go for a run to the gas station to fill up. I plug in my Predator handtuner (have it for resetting codes) to monitor some LIVE data and I notice the IAT was in the low 20's. I thought this is going to be awesome if I have any traction at all on the street. Car is now warmed up and IAT still in the 40's due to low temps outside and the VaraRam sucking it all into the motor. Bare with me, this is the first time I've drove the car in months. Felt great !!!!! No traction in first or second, but I hit third and stood on it and all I could think is now that's what I've been missing. Holy **** did she feel stronger then ever. Big difference going from my 130 fwhp daily driver with over 219k on the clock. At any rate just wanted to share.

Yeah you gotta love the cold air and while it does affect n/a applications as well you should of felt the difference of 30-40 degrees in my cobra, absolutely amazing. Trap speed would increase about 3 mph in the 1/8 from summer to winter here in NC!

Ya I love the cold weather in the cobra however I do notice a 1-2 mpg drop when it is cold out.

Because it is hard to stay out of it when it is cold LOL! Actually if it feels faster (low IAT's on cobras produce big gains) then it is making more power which would use more fuel even at part throttle, I guess that would be the simplest explanation!

Ya. that's what I always figured the drop was due to the air being more dense.

Awesome Doug. I bet you cannot wait to start driving the car more. I know down here about the lowest we get is 30 degrees. On those morning my car is a beast.

To give you an idea of the effect, I dynoed my T/A when it was about 40 degrees out and it pulled about 460RWHP...after the SAE correction it was 427!! So basically over 30RWHP due to the cold/dense air!

Maybe I should dyno the cobra in the winter. It made 416rwhp during the summer with just a cai and c/b.

I believe the cold weather mpg loss is due to higher idle speed during warm up, the fact warm-up has a richer fuel mixture, and cold tranny fluid takes more energy to pump. If you take a highway trip in cold weather, i don't think you'll see a drop in mpg.

That explains why she felt so mean !!! To apply your experience that would imply I was making just over 520 rwhp !! Sweet !! She felt very, very strong. First time I had ever driven the car in that cold of air. I think it was only about 4 degrees out.

The cold days have been and gone here in FL, I like it though, car felt like it was a lot more responsive and pulled that bit more. Love the cold weather.
