Default Modding a 03 z06, what for first mod?

My old man has an 03 z06 that is factory stock, hes thinking of doing some bolt ons. He is curious as to which one is going to free up more power. I told him the headers hands down, what is your guys opinion??

headers and catback. good ones make the z06 sound wicked as well. don't cheap out here, stainless all the way. I'd go with some LG motorsports C5 headers. Keep the cats on or get hiflow cats to keep the sound refined. Catback is up to you guys. And of course a vararam intake.

Depends on how much money he wants to spend, how much power he wants.

Personally, I would procharge it. Add headers later for more power.

Headers on an 03 Z06 with a tune should produce in the 370rwhp range. I highly reccoment Kooks headers.

vararam, LG Pro LT headers, nitto's and u'll be good to go for a while

btw with the above mods i ran a best of 11.78/117 1.69 60' last november with stock tune

Headers (LG, Kooks, or American). Intake (Halltech, vararam etc). An axleback exhaust is only going to make it sound better.

btw with the above mods i ran a best of 11.78/117 1.69 60' last november with stock tune

Isnt that like barely a tenth faster than stock? i see anywhere from 12.1 to 11.7 bone stock!



Depends on how much money he wants to spend, how much power he wants.

Personally, I would procharge it. Add headers later for more power.

lol and forgive me for saying but isnt that pretty damn close to what the car dynos at stock? GM hi tech did one and got 424.2 horses, through a 13% loss in power due to drivetrain what is that like 375 RWHP??

Most C5Z06's dyno 340-350rwhp stock, mine for example was 351 with intake, so 375rwhp is a nice bump.

his has been dynoed and tuned it made 358 rwhp and 355 twtq. factory stock, paper filter.... so i think with headers and a vararam it might be close to 400 rwhp

1. Headers, like you said.
2. Induction
3. Tune

A cat-back will not really help all that much on a bolt-on car other than sound. That said, I saw a couple of dyno graphs of the new LGM 3" catback that got my attention.

Lg Pro Longtube headers, a CAI, and a spot on tune would liven her up a lot. Not too much money either.

^nice, the airflow on the c5 generation is very restricted, its just a small hose. so the air intake was the way to go. not to mention the LG headers

Great choices! You will see monster results with those mods.
The stock Titanium cat-back is so good on the Z06 you will not see much gains with an aftermarket cat-back. Only get one if your looking for a different sound.

doesnt more sound equal more flow? i have heard some very loud C5s with a simple axleback exhaust systems.....



also did u install your LG and vara?

the headers just came yesterday and we didnt know that they dont come with gaskets. They also forgot to ship the vara.... We will be putting the headers on in the next 2 weeks. Ill post up some soundclips!

Not necessarily. The SLP dual dual exhaust, which was available for stock Camaro SS's, is maybe the best performance cat-back exhaust system available for F-body's and is also one of the quietest.
