Default 3" chambered exhaust is complete, dial-up, go grab a beer!

As some of you know, I have been getting the car ready for a "heart transplant", and the 1st step is finally complete. Here are a few pics of the completed 3" system using 1-7/8" ARH race headers with their 3" off road merge modified to accept 3" I.D. "Powerstick" chambered mufflers from Classic Chambered Exhaust and full 3" over-axle rear section custom built by my good friend Mark Smith of IAC Performance here in CO. As far as I know, no one has done this on a C5 yet, so let me know what ya'all think. Here's the pics and a couple short vid clips:

Here's a few vids:

Now that the rear section is done, the sound inside the car is no louder than the Corsa Ti's were, just much deeper in tone. I am very pleased with the results!

Nice I have been looking into the "Powerstick" chambered mufflers, so it is nice to see them in action.

Depends on what your definition of extremely loud is. Some people thought the Corsa Ti's I had on the car before these were extremely loud. It's pretty loud at WOT, but at part throttle it's not bad at all. I can still use the cell phone while cruising on the highway at 75 with no problem at all. I like it loud, to me it sounds just right, after all it is pretty much a race car with a liscense plate.

LGM makes the big 3. Pretty much does what you did, but probably costs more. How much for your system?? Did you dyno after the install to see if you picked up any power ?? I'd be curious to see if you did. Seems like true 3 inch exhaust without the 2 1/2 inch bottleneck should allow a few extra ponys to show up on the dyno. Sweet setup.

Doug,
Called LG last month about the "big 3" trying to get a deal on it, they discounted it a bit but still too pricey and not loud enough for my old deaf ears. I got around $600 total in the system, including my bud Mark's labor to build the rear section. The mufflers are a good buy at around $65 each, another $60 in stainless clamps, then I bought $125 worth of 3" mandrel bent U-bends from Summit, the rest was for labor and the chrome tips.
No dyno time yet. (nearest dyno is 170+ miles from here) I currently have the intake and TB off the car for porting at VMax in FL. Reason I did this is both my engine builder (LME) and head porter (Pete Incaudo of Vmax) strongly recommended a full 3" system for my upcoming max-effort N/A
418 LS3 stroker. I also took off the Dynatech LT's and replaced them with
ARH 1-7/8" race headers. I know I'd be leaving at least 20hp on the table with the smaller exhaust, even though the Corsa Ti's I had on there are really straight pipes, but are still only 2.5" ID.
I'll be sure to keep you all posted on the progress of the build.

Thanks for all the details Jim. I knew it would have to be a lot cheaper doing it yourself. You saved a good 350 bucks. Looks very good too. Maybe you should consider putting it all together as a kit if you get a really good power increase from it and sell it ?? I am sure you'd sell a bunch of them especially if you kept the mark up to a minimum of 150 bucks. Not too bad of a profit margin bro, and again excellent looking system.

Stainless works makes a full 3" system from the headers all the way back. Ive been running it for 4years now. I'd say it flows pretty damn well....the car made 410rwhp with cam and boltons, and now makes north of 450rwhp with CNC'd heads and FAST 90 through the exhaust.

Nice work and the 3" does have one hell of a nice low tone....

I think it was around 1500 bucks..... The system was on the car when i bought it in 2004. I just added heads and the Fast 90....The first owner did provide a few dyno sheets with different combos that he tried. From what I could tell it lost like 3rwhp vs the corsa indy (basically nothing)....the stainless works system does have mufflers.

My avatar pic is the rear view. Sorry don't have undercar pics currently. BTW I'm probably going to put the car up (2001 Z06) up for sale soon. So if ya know anyone interested tell them to look for an ad here in a couple of weeks.

Sounds pretty good. I've always been a fan of an old school style chambered exhaust. I have the stainless works chambered cat-back myself.

I was told there wasn't much of a difference (+/- 3rwhp) going from 2.5in to 3in piping on a H/C 346 car. Now on a stroker car, there was a significant difference (15-20rwhp).
