That's great news since I was getting high 1.6s leaving a 5k.... I will be ordering a 2 step and gear tomorrow.

Maybe I can get some 11.3Xs next time I'm out...

And as far as wheels go, I'd like to get my use out of the 16" M&H slicks I have now.... and maybe on the next tire purchase I can go down to a 15"...

Thanks for your advice man.

Can we get a breakdown of your setup. Sounds like you are on the right track with the changes you want to make and you definitely have a strong running 6 spd car.

I just chatted with a buddy of mine and he asked me - are you power shifting the car?

My response - no.

Looks like I found another tenth!

So, it looks like with a gear, 2 step and power shifting I should go down a good bit... good to know guys.

Question:

The sticky stated that bias ply tires grow 1" to 1-1/2" at 150mph.

While I'm not trapping anywhere near that, would it be safe to assume that my tire is growing from 26" to 26.75" at 120+ mph?

I'm trying to nail down the gear for this car, and it looks like a 4.30 is the best for my setup...

My rev limiter is set at 6,800 rpm and I'd like to be right under it at the traps.

Thanks guys.

have you been on a dyno? that setup should pull to 7k. unless the cam isnt made for high rpm, if it is and you have rod bolts, i would shift at 6800-7k and set the limiter to 7300 that should be some more time knocked off as well

i shift at 6800 w/ stock rod bolts and the limiter is set to 7200

The bottom end is stock, including the rod bolts.

From what I can tell from an old graph, the hp peaks at ~ 6,500 rpm.

So, turning it much past that is a waste. But, having a damn shift light set at that rpm will help keep me in the power band of the car...

u should be shifting 3-400 rpm past peak power. im shifting mine at 6800 and did when i had the old motor too. rev limiter is at 7k now but im going to bump it up to 7300 next time i flash it so i can stay in it out the back end.

EDIT: I spoke with a buddy of mine and he said that shifting 4-500 rpm past peak power lands you in higher hp output after the shift... which made perfect since.

Tommy - I'm still curious to know if you power shift your car.

Thanks man

I always power shift, and shift after it peaks. Just like you said, it lands you in higher hp. Nice car/times

I power shifted the car on the street the other night... WOW.... that was fun.

However, a buddy told me that the stock shifter has no limits and I could break the tranny... so it's time for a shifter I guess....

What shifter are you guys running?

I was looking at the Hurst Billet...

the pro 5.0 is a good choice, but from what i hear, the MGW is the best.

Thanks brother!

I'm heading back to the track in few weeks, so if you're game just let me know!

Come over here sometime soon and give me some ideas on where to get weight off this pig!

Thanks for the tip man.

The only question I really have for the MGW is why is the stick offset?

I finally got my hands on a copy of the slip of my last pass of the day.

It just cracks me up how deep she ran into the 11s with such a crappy 60'. And this just further confirms that this car has much more in it... I love it when there's room to improve.

I've got the 4.30 gears waiting to go in. I hope to have new track times this time next month.

I've searched but could not find the answer to this question:

Anyone know what gain I will see in ET going from a 3.70 to a 4.30?

I'm running a 26" tall cheater slick that grows ~3/4"... and I'm calculating that the 4.30 will put me at peak hp or slightly over it at the traps...

Thanks guys
