Default first time with bolt ons, mad at results

i bought a 99 formula 6spd last week. got it registered yesterday and went right to the track.

lid, bbk TB, ls6 IM, LT, catted y pipe, full 3.5" exhaust. ls6 clutch, moser 12 bolt with 4.10s. 275 40 17 et street radials

first run i went 14.1, bad launch, missed 4th bad. i checked the tire pressure cause i didnt get a chance before the first run. between 55 and 60 psi in both! i told the guy that mounted them to put 30 psi in. dropped em to 25
2nd run, went to launch and still had TC on. missed 4th again and went 14.0.

the clutch wouldn't come all the way back up by the end of the run.

3rd run, 18psi tires. launched harder and got a 1.93 60'. clean pass, went 13.3 @ 106. DA was around 1900 then.

4th run, burnout, practice launch, then i couldn't get it in first cause the clutch was stuck. got it to go in, pulled a 1.85, but missed gears cause of the clutch.

5th run, burnout, no practice launch. launched at 5k, it felt like a beast but i only pulled a 1.90 went 13 something again.

i can't figure out why this car is so slow. IMHO i don't think its me because i went 13.0 in a formula with a lid, clutch, and no exhaust on street tires.

this car is very quiet and i think the exhaust is super restrictive, so i'm hoping that pulling the y pipe off will be a big difference. i'm gonna run again thursday and find out.

anyone have any insight?

It should be running a little faster maybe the clutch is just not transfering the power to the wheels. Also not trying to judge you but if this is your first f body you will get better with the shifting. My friend been driving manual cars since we could drive but he is a ford guy and has a 2002 GT I have a 2002 Camaro SS, I let him borrow it one time and he missed 2nd and 3rd.What is your 1/8 mile run?

i'll see how the clutch feels tomorrow at the track, then we'll see

8.59 1/8 82mph.

about the shifting, i have my other formula that went 13.0. almost stock, and this car is easier to shift then my other formula. i really don't think its me with the shifting problem.

weather conditions? the car is wicked slow given the mods. i doubt the ypipe is your problem. i've seen stock manifold/ypipe cars go 107+ at full weight. what is your raceweight?

Sounds like you have a hydrolic issue. Being the slave or the master. There is no way your going to get a clean run and see what the car can do with a hydrolic issue where the car wont shift consistantly.

Shifting at almost 6k. Weather was about 73 kinda humid. DA was 1800 or so. Race weight is whatever the car is stock plus 250. I pulled the clutch line to do the dill mod. Then bench bled the master yesterday. Gotta do it in car tomorrow. Even with some clutch problems the car only ran 13.3 on a clean pass

I think my problem is the slp maf. I'm gonna swap it for the stock one tomorrow before the track again. The exhaust is off but I couldn't beat on it today.

Get a better clutch and a tick master, that will solve most of your shifting problems. And definately get rid of that maf, there's no need for anything but stock with only bolt-ons.

I ran again with the exhaust off and picked up almost 4mph in the 1/8th. Couldn't get 4th so idk what I would have ran. I had a best of 13.0 @ 107. I switched out the maf with the stock one. Still idles low and rough sometimes.

You said the clutch is still holding the power but is it difficult to get it into gear when shifting?

For our dr's we usally have the pressure at 14 psi. And never had a problem hooking up.. It might be time for a new clutch and slave. Monster clutchs are getting awsome reviews.. Check them out.

yeah, the clutch engaged right off the floor, so i tried making the adjustable master. now i'm having other problems. i think i might need a shim, or to get this adjustable master figured out.

i wasnt really having a problem hooking, i really don't think its the clutch. the clutch grabs hard off the line. slave.. i don't want to have to replace it, but i may soon anyway.

Nobody can make any sort of observation until you get the clutch sorted. Clearly the car has 12 second parts though.

You ran Thursday; I saw you. Tell me the Ohio Boy testing Thursday and I'll know we were on the same track?

Thanks for racing at the track not the street where you ran your 13. I agree - you have clutch issues. The co-founder of the page said that - please listen!!

A 99 - most folks drive 15K a year. You didn't mention the miles on your beast. She just might be a little tired of pulling that 4:10 around all the time. Get the clutch fixed give the car a good tune and try again. Good luck!!

maybe i'm just lost. but i don't see why everyone thinks the clutch is bad? to me, when a clutch goes bad, it slips.

i got the clutch working nice again last night, adjusted the stock master, and it felt good. it was wet out so i couldn't get on it. but it was shifting smoother then before. high rpm shifting was clean.

i'm from jersey lol. i doubt you saw me in ohio. i race at atco raceway.

my car has 95k on it, with only 50k on the engine. i should be going down tuesday, hopefully i'll get some clean passes.

thanks for all the advice guys, sorry if it seems like i'm ignoring some of it.

btw my other car the went the same times with 1mph more has 190k on it. that is also a reason i'm getting annoyed. i hope the tune really wakes up the car
