1.59 on street tires!!

if mine is in manual 2nd it WILL launch in 2nd, trust me i rebuilt my tranny two times now, i do all my work, i know how 2nd gear feels. Its ok that some of you don't beleive me, like i said i will try to download the dvd as soon as i find a computer that will do it.
My suspension is still the stock style with stock springs and shocks, but i have all the good links, well actually i bought all the cheapest parts, the J and B rear lower control arms, all poly motor and tranny mounts, edelbrock panhard rod and torque arm, and the bmr torque arm relocaton crossmember with the torque arm set at 2 holes down from stock. the car made 424 to the rear wheel so when i launch in 2nd and the stall flashes to 3600 the hp is there.
I'm not saying that the car will do 1.59 every time but usually i don't have a problem doing 1.68-1.70 consistent.

I went a week later in hotter weather with 255 micket thompson et street radial and ran 10.96 @ 122.5 with a 1.52 60' launching in first!
on streets i cannot launch in first without blowing them off, even if i roll into it and get a 1.70 the car will run about 11.4 which is slower if i launch in second.
Oh i also have the bmr k-member with no sway bar and front bumper support, also i put the battery in the trunk, for the poast 2 years the battery has been there.

I retract my previous statement... sounds like you know exactly what you are doing. That is a cool series you run in and they are starting that down here also. That must freak people out seeing that thing leave looking all bone stock

i had a transgo kit in my a4 car, it would let me launch in second. believe it or not, the car still went 1.7s 60' leaving in 2nd gear. i did 2nd gear burnouts and would forget to put it in D from time to time haha. car went 7.8s @ 87 leaving in 2nd and 7.6s leaving in 1st.
nice times. unbelievable no matter what gear that a street tire could hold the power required to go 1.59 60'. congrats.

yup i have done it too leaving in 2nd...usually slows my car down by about .3-.4 so you definitely have a 10 sec slip when you get it to hook in 1st...what is the cars setup you are really close to my times...

Congrats, I'm guessing the 2nd gear launch kills enough ratio to make it work. I've gotten 1.7x on regular street rubber with a good working suspension and rolling into the throttle quickly. Good job!

My car also will leave in 2nd gear if the selector is placed in 2.That is how i do my burnouts so that it does not go from 1-2 during the burnout.I believe it is different for some of the years.My sister- inlaw had an identical car like mine but it was a 1999 and it would not start out in 2nd.
