Default New Best with ported 799 heads and BTR cam

New combination for me this season and the first day out today.
2002 camaro
799 heads ported by TEA
BTR stage 4 cam
Stock LS6 intake
ARH 1 7/8 headers, Y pipe and Magnaflow catback
stock 5.7L bottom end
A4 with an FTI 4000 stall cam
3.73 gear and 26" rear tire.
1.62 60', 11.62 @ 116mph.

The air was pretty good for this location and around 1300' on this pass. The tune hasn't been updated since last year. So there is room for improvement, how much I don't yet know.

Are you saying untuned since cam and heads? No offense but I would have hoped for better. I just received my BTR Stage IV and need to install and retune. I ran the exact same time and mph on a TR230, stock heads, lesser exhaust, full weight. Hoping for a noticeable improvement with the BTR cam.

MPH depends where your at though, at my track our average DA is 2000-4000. I dynod the SAE numbers in my Sig and trap 115-117 depending on the air where as the common full bolt on guys that dyno the normal 350-360ish on the same dyno as me are only doing about 108 on a good day, it's not uncommon at my track for stock or catback only type LS1s at Thunder Valley in Marion, South Dakota to not break 100mph

Last year it made 374hp on a mustang dyno with a Tick Street Heat stg 2 cam, stock 799 heads, and an old beat up set of 1 3/4 Hooker headers. The tune was updated for that combo. It ran a best of 11.87 @ 114.

Not sure of raceweight, but the car is mostly complete less about 50# I have removed.

Yea, this is not Florida or San Diego, Jersey shore, or Maryland racing at sea level. The DA was right around actual altitude yesterday and about as good as it gets here. Most of the time in the summer it is above 2000'.

My goal was 11.40 so I can race in the 11.50 or 60's when it is 90 deg out and 100@ humidity. More work to be done for sure.

IMO 116 mph isn't too bad considering the DA and being full weight and all. I think 118 mph or so would be more like it, but still not that bad

True about the track elevations. My two tracks are 36' and 59' so we can get some serious negative DA here in FL.
How does if "feel" it pulls compared to the old cam?

The car pulls very strong, a good bit harder than before. It hits like a freight train around 4000. Still drives well even at low RPM and the converter locked. It is not a fair comparison from one cam to the other considering the other upgrades I made. This cam was probably worth a few hp, but no way to really tell.

Thanks, can't wait to get mine in. Everything is laying on the bench ready to go, just want to find the right time to do it start to finish.

I didn't realize where you live. The DA is definitely a factor.

Congrats. Get the car retuned and you'll grab some nice gains.

Any plans for a FAST intake? Throw one on before retune and it'll pick up even more!

A fast intake is on my wish list. I have some other hefty expenses coming up so I doubt it will be this year. Maybe something for next summer. I'm only shooting for 11.50's right now as I don't have a cage in the car and think (hope) I can get there without an intake change. I don't have a good CAI set up yet, need better tires, etc. So lots to try or do.

With stock 799's and Tick cam on a mustang dyno it made 374. Best of 11.87@114, well technically 113.98...

I made it back to the track last night and got three passes in. It went a 11.73 at 115, 11.69 at 115 then spun and went 11.80. The first two passes had a 1.64 60'. So that is where the car is at. I am a couple tenths off my goal.

Unfortunately funds are very tight right now or I would swap to a Fast intake and get a new tune. Maybe I can fab up my own CAI when I get some time.
