Default First track run after mods

So I started with a bone stock 2002 SS Camaro and ran 13.6 in the 1/4 mile. After a few bolt-ons and a BTR stage 2 cam, I went to the track again but this time it was 1/8. Best of 3 passes was a 7.98@88mph. I guess that will put me around 12.3-12.5 in the 1/4 mile. I am pretty happy with the results but I will be adding a 150 nitrous shot next. I went with a 3200rpm converter because I wanted good street manners but I think is seriously hurting my 60ft. I think it will really like the 150 shot. Here are the slips:

That is great progress man. Tires are holding you back. Stall converter with street tires makes for a "cool burnout machine". Stall + drag radials = better 60'. You'll be in the 11's with decent tires.

I suspect you 13.6 run was probably around 8.7 or greater in the 1/8.

150 shot isn't going to help if you don't get some tires under it

It has 26" MT drag radials.

Gotcha

On those passes were you stalling it up or flashing the converter?

You should be way lower with that 60ft on DR and a stall. Good progress, but you can squeeze a lot more out of the car as it sits with a better launch.

I tried both. The 7.98 pass was stalling it but I didn't get it up to 3200rpms which is what the converter is. Surprisingly, it did better stalling it although not by much.

1 7/8 TSP headers
TSP offroad Y pipe
SLP dual-dual catback
BT stage 2 cam 227/234 .614"/.576" 113+2
FTI 3200 stall converter
Competition Cams trunion upgrade
SLP lid & K&N filter
MT drag radials

I dynoed 386rwhp with SAE correction

I think the converter is too low but I was looking for good street manners. I feels sluggish of the line at the track though as seen in the 60 ft.

Something doesn't add up. Are you spinning off the line? If so, what psi are you running in rear tires.

It doesn't spin at all, just takes off but I feel no real kick.

Definitely a lot left in the combination if you can get the sixty foot down. In my opinion you would be much better suited with a 3600 converter. Drive-ability difference between a 3200-3600 converter would be minimal.

It's been a long time since I had a stock stalled car, but I'm pretty sure I did a lot of 1.9x sixty foots with a stock stall and just a couple bolt-ons. Either your converter or tune is holding you back a ton. I would change it to at least 4000 rpms

WOW. I felt certain that your sub par 60' was due to spinning. You have more HP/TQ than I do. I'm pretty new to this game and recently did 12.27 with a 1.7 60' with bolt ons only(stock cam), SS3600 and Toyo TQ's. I cannot tell you how many guys tried to tell me not to get a stall smaller than a 3600. I went with the smallest that they recommend and I have no regrets. They told me that after a few weeks, that it would feel "normal". They were right. I know what to expect from my car after only 250 miles on it and 3 passes down the drag strip. The 3600 stall (combined with DR's) has been the biggest gaining mod. The 3600 has been great, but don't hesitate to consider a 4000.

I'll be a little bit surprised if the stall is the only problem, but these guys seem to think that is the answer and I trust their advise.

If the stall is spec'd for spray it will be tight NA but a beast on spray. Thats why I'm wondering if it's spec'd for spray

Makes sense. I recall folks telling me to get a "lock up nitrous converter". I guess that was in case I decided to spray down the road.

I don't think the converter is spec'd for spray. Its either too low or the car needs some minor fine tuning is my guess.
