Default NHRA compitition license runs

WOO HOOO I made my NHRA compitition license runs yesterday at Thompson Dragway. All I need to do now is send in the documentation and of course the money.

The track wasn't hooking in the morning for my 1/2 passes and moderate passes. I took my 1st full pass run and spun BADLY. 1.47 60' and ran a 10.07. I was getting really worried that I wouldn't be able to hook and make my required 9 second full passes.

Well, they prepped the track again then proceeded to run all the trophy class the the bikes. I couldn't believe they do that. The weather was going away too.

After I cooled the engine down I came around for another run. I was pins and needles wondering if I would hook. I did my burnout, cleared the engine, staged in, let go of the trans brake button and KER POW. 1.36 @ 9.94 and man was I relieved. I made my 2nd full pass and a 1.37 @ 9.95. I'm all set.

My next chore was to walk about 50 freekin' miles around the pits to find the track manager and the NHRA licensed drivers to sign off. I'm all set now.

I have my IHRA compitition license and now I'll have my NHRA compition license too.

Don't let him kid you. This is how it really went. He was double fisting 2 bags of chips and a half case of beer the night before. We warned him it was going to slow him down and it did. After much frustration he went into the Port-O-John for a good 15 minutes. He jumped back into his car and ran the number. Congradulations on obtaining your NHRA license!!! Now can I have the keys?

Thanks David. It's not hard just time consuming. A full day at the track.

Sean, first you need to get a physical examination and have the doctor fill out the form provided by NHRA. These forms can be downloaded from www.NHRA.com .

Your roll cage must be NHRA approved and up to date.

Take the completed medical form to the track along with the ET compitition run form and give it to the track manager.

They give you a blindfolded cockpit test to see if you can get out of your car in an emergency situation.

Then you need to take 6 solo runs 2 of which need to be 9.999 seconds or better. I believe they will accept an ET within 5% due to poor track or weather conditions but I could be wrong on that.

The track manager and 2 licenced drivers need to sign off on all the 6 runs.

Send in the forms, time slips and the cash to the NHRA. I'll send mine in this week.

That's it.

Thanks Coach, I'm going to Thompson on Saturday for a Childrens Hospital Charity event. My company will donate some bucks and the track is donating ALL of the entry fees for that day.

It was really cool because the winners in the gamblers races yesterday including the junior dragster winners donated a portion or all of their winnings for next weeks event.

Congrats Tom!! Is it mandatory that all the passes be in the 9 second range. Lets say you made 2 10.05 passes and the rest 9.9X. Would that still count so you could get your license or do ALL the runs have to be in the 9's?

Thanks everyone

Mike, the first pass is a 1/2 pass. The next 3 passes are moderate full passes. The final 2 passes must be 9 second passes.

Congrats Tom. I'd suggest you check the plugs in your shoes to make sure they're not fouled after running around the track all day.

Congrats from another NHRA license holder!

How'd you do on the cockpit-orientation test? I had already been running my car for a while, so I did pretty good (easier to get out of a dragster too!)

My first full pass was a 7.99 @ 168.xx. It funny, when you get to half-track in an open cockpit car, your helmet really wants to come off your head (I guess low pressure above the cockpit maybe?)

It did it the first time on one of my moderate runs (I ran just past half track at WOT.) but it was far enough to notice the helmet sucking. Scared me bad, next pass I had my chin straps so tight you could see the webbing left in the imprint!!!

Anyway, congrats again!

Thanks Eric and Taco.

Taco, your dragster sounds like an awesome ride. I often think about going to a dragster. Anyway, I did good in the cockpit orintation test.

They just asked me to close my eyes lol and I unsnapped the window net, unhooked the 5 point harness, opened the door and got out of the car. I was suprised how easy it was. I peeked though J/K

LOL, this is exactly what happened to me 2 years ago when I did mine. It was 96 degrees outside and the track was crap. I squeeked by with two 9.9x runs.

Thanks PaiN, it's great to be back at the track again after all my problems in the past. I must say I was about to hang it up and go SBC.

It's really good to hear from you and I hope all is well with you and yur new family. Good luck buddy.
