Default First Timer! Really high trap speed

13.278 @109.35. 2.2 60'
mods: mti lid, gms maf, magnaflow catback, umi short stick. also had a half tank of gas, heavy 19" front wheels/tires, worn out street tires on salad shooters with full race weight including a heavy stereo system.

Now a friend of a friend has a stripper camaro running 12.9 with only a tune and he's telling me my car must be some sort of factory freak cause the track conditions were horrible and my car is crazy heavy. with this run i spun through first and held wheel spin down on the rest of the shifts. track was so crappy that i almost lost it shifting to 4th on one pass. any opinions or tips on helping me get in the 12s with this setup? any thoughts on my car and why it traps so damn high yet has such low times?

Your spinning will contribute to your high MPH. And for having so few mods i wouldn't call your times slow. Buy a spare set of stock 16" wheels and throw some drag radials on the rean wheels and see what she will run. 12's should be within reach.

So did you have 19's or salad shooters?

yeah the salad shooters were on the back and the 19s were on the fronts cause the other pair of salad shooters had a flat tire. so your saying a little spinning will give me a higher mph?

A little spinning can produce a little higher mph.

Are you sure your car is stock. Even with the correction factor for my track, my car is only trapping at 111 mph. I think the previous owner didn't tell you about the cheatr cam in the car :p

Good times though.

109 in an 02' M6 car isn't a reach with those mods. My friends 2000 SS went 110 w/ free mods, ported MAF, and a cut out... street radials I might add. Car ran in the 12.9-13.0 range... 13.20's were a bad pass, car still trapped 109-110 on a 13.2 pass spinning.

i'm sure your friend is a much better driver also. i think i could have done a better ET if i had a better night. but now that i think of it my MPH would go down if i grip better which would justify the 109. i ran a 13.3 at 110 also. thanks again guys, i cant wait to hit the track again and get better! needless to say... i'm hooked

Put some stock wheels on it for the track only, and more seat time... car will be trapping in that range pretty consistently - maybe even a little bit more. My A4 car w/ 2.73's went 107 w/ basically a lid and a cut out in cool air. These cars just tend to make a damn good amount of MPH.

that kind of mph can produce easy 12s with good traction and quick shifts. Better air should push you above 110 mph and maybe mid 12s with a great launch
