Default My First Time Ever at a Drag Strip

Lets just say I am not a good driver. I went to Milan Dragway today and did pretty bad. The conditions were not very good. It was 79 degrees with 84% humidity according to weather.com. I was kind of paranoid about breaking my stock rear end because I do not have any money to fix it. I just kinda eased it out of the hole. I also granny shifted it, so that hurt me a bit also.

Here are the Results:
Best ET 13.16
Best MPH 114.55
Best 60ft 2.3831
Worst ET 13.31
Worst MPH 113.6
Worst 60ft 2.505

I hit the rev limited in every gear so that also did not help. I know my car has ALOT more in it if I could drive it right. I am going to get the rev limiter raised from 6700 to 7000 so I can shift at about 6800. I am a little disapointed about the MPH but, I think the humidity, the granny shifting, hitting the rev limiter and the soft takeoff hurt that alot. One thing that was strange was I tried to just redline it in third going through the traps and I banged the revlimiter and held it there for a 1/2 second or so going through the traps. At 6700 my speedo was just under 120 and I only trapped 114. That didn't make any sense to me. Every one else was running really poor times also. My buddy Rick ran 12.7 @ 115 with a heads/cam C6 corvette with 445 rwhp. And he is alot better driver than me. I still hope I can trap 120+ on a good day, driving it better.

Also, I forgot to mention I had almost a full tank of 93 gas.

Gillies, I was hoping to line up against you. I saw a few of your runs, you just need some practice, probably a whole new beast with that heads/cam.

Rick ran a 12.7 because the corvette was on 20" rims and stretched street tires, Dan didntwant the MT ET's back on it. That vette went 12.2 before, but it has 11's in it for sure.

Your car is looking and sounding good, get some practice on the banging gears, Id be a little cautious too. Were you on street tires I thought I saw you go around the water box?The track was working pretty well for me, I used to run a 2.4 60' on street tires and now almost a 1.9 on Nitto 555R's, the track was prepped pretty good as well so it seemed. I just checked waether.com and it said 94% humidity bad luck on the rain at 8:30, oh well. Hope to see you out again soon..

Yea, I was on street tires. What times did you run? Still, overall I did pretty sad I ran stock C5 corvette times with 130 more horsepower to the wheels.

My best on all motor was a 12.8 and on the spray I ran an 11.9 @ 121. The car has a bit more in it I think...the humidity was killing us all. However I want to get a stall put in shortly and aim for 11.6's or better. Best 60' was a 2.0 on 555R drag radials.

You need to get some radials, I went to the track once on street tires and never will again, waste of money because you simply dont hook. If your buying tires my Nitto 555R's work great, they DO need to be heated up a bit to launch hard on them but they are the only radial that can last over 20k miles. MT's you are lucky to get 2,000 out of on the street and BFG's I think they last like 8-10k. I wish there was another track rental coming up soon. It was awsome , I got run after run and heat didnt seem to affect the times, they were pretty consistent.

I just got back from Milan....Only got 5 runs in.

Was your buddy the one with the yellow C6? If it was I raced him my last race.

I got a new best E.T. of 12.68 but I could not get my damn GSD3's to go quicker than a 2.21 60' time. Out of 5 runs I only had 3 clean runs. My best MPH of the night was 116.90. I think this is pretty slow for my mods, but I am at almost 3700 lbs.

I saw very dark clouds heading down I-94 and turned back around. I didn't want to get caught with M/T Drag radials on. Its no fun driving 25mph with your hazards onin the rain.

How was the turn out afterall???

I think what really killed me was my 1/8 mile. I ran this grand national that went 7.74 @ 88.5, and I ran 8.88 @ 84. In the 1/4 mile he went 12.2 @ 110, I finished at 13.21 @ 114. I picked up 30 mph, and he only picked up 21.5 mph. So, If I could just learn to launch and bang the gears faster I would be doing alot better.
