Default 4L60E to PowerGlide Results

I had my doubts, a lot of people would say it would slow down. I even thought it would be slower but after the first pass I knew I had a winning combination. Just to make sure I ran it another three times. I want to make sure I was seeing my time correctly.

11.08@122.5 - First Pass
11.06@122.9 - 2nd Pass
11.02@119 - 3rd Pass - Shifted way to late.

I'm still running the same cam, same heads. All we done was installed a set of 4 bolt splayed caps and re-ringed it and new bearings. We installed the PowerGlide and took it to the track. The rings might still not be seated all the way just yet. Since it was still getting quicker each pass. Once the rings get seated time to put the good oil in it and then we will see what it's going to do.

The 60's did take a slight hit. My 60's use to be in the low 1.5's to high 1.4's now the best so far has been 1.57. I'm using an 1.76 first gear ATI PowerGlide with a 4500 ATI MRT 8" Converter. All I got to say is wow! ATI really knows there stuff.

Previous best 11.26@119

The only thing I have to get use to is the shifting part and what stall speed I need to be at to launch it. That's what TnT is all about.

Everyone tells me the same ****. I bought one anyway. Looks good you could pick your 60ft up with a bigger converter.

Congrats Ken !! I've considered going to a Powerglide but the Turbo 400 is doing great and till it decides to die I'll stick with it..I went to your website just a couple days ago and seen where you were in the process of changing over..

I understand you are not much on electronics but since going to my Biondo electric shift setup I've made about 30 good passes without hitting the rev limiter or missing the shift point..

But again congrats on the new best...

Tim,
Thanks!, I'm just bought a B&M Pro Stick for now. I will consider upgrading to a electric style shifter later on. For now I'm enjoying it.

LS1408 - Same here, so far I'm not regretting it.

I knew the powerglide took less horsepower to turn but I had no idea you'd see results like this. Similar DA, etc to when you ran before??? I thought the 'glides only really helped the high horsepower cars by taking away some of the gearing right off the line thereby hooking better. This is some great info. Thanks.

Only person with a powerglide I have ever talked to says it was one of the best mods he'd ever done. In his case, he actually improved his 60 foot times but I have a feeling he was not hooking up before but was after.

I also have an ATI 8" converter with MRT. Mine is a 4900 stall speed though. I imagine if you had mine you would be sixty footing a little better. My converter saw temps around 250 degrees for half a season before I finally upgraded to a bigger cooler. We checked the converter and it looked brand new. ATI rocks.

I love my power glide. 1.96 first gear. This year I am doing something about that boring 1 shift. I'm installing an electric shifter

sounds good.
I have been wanting to get rid of the 4l60 cause I want a Tbrake
but I was going to go with a 3speed because I was scared of that glides first gear but I would rather have a glide.
Now you got me reconsidering.
what rear gear do you have?

do you still have the 4.11

Still have the 4.11's in it. I'm still getting use to it, on the 4th pass I was logging my run and the darn rotor inside the opti decided it did not need the brass piece in it any more and that run was aborted. Next weekend I will log all my runs to get a good idea of how much it's dropping between shifts and my launch RPM's.

That will be my next investment is a electric shifter. The third run I had was slower in MPH just because I forgot to shift.

DA wise was about the same, the third pass DA was in the 300-400 feet range.
