Default My 2000 Camaro Racecar build

Im bored at work, so I figured I'd make a project thread for my car. While its nothing impressive compared to 3/4 of the cars on this site, its my baby, and for the short time that I've had it, and with being a full time 17 year old student, Im having FUN with the car! I got into going fast the day my dad and I unloaded our 72 Camaro drag car project. That car is my first love, and I'll never get rid of it. But while its on hold awaiting the chassis work, I picked up my 2000 Camaro to toy around with on the street. Like I said, its nothing impressive for now, and won't be for a while...but Im gonna play the Cam only game for now, because thats what my budget will allow. I'd like to make the top 10 Cam Only list, and see how fast I can go before something cool gets built. I bought the car stone stock in July of 2007. I had the car a good 4.5 hours before I bought a buddies used SLP loudmouth catback, and tossed it on. A week later came a SLP lid, thanks for helping with the install Trigger. Stock the car went consistent 13.20s @ 107. Not bad for a 2.73 geared Auto.

Bone stock, the hour I bought the car. Previously owned by a woman in her mid 40s.

Last winter, this is what I have managed to do with the motor.

Engine wise:
Stock bottom end
241 heads
PRC springs
Chrome molly 7.4 pushrods
MS4 cam
LS6 oil pump
LS6 intake
Professional Products fuel rails
Ported TB
Pacesetter longtube headers
3" Dynomax bullet mufflers
MSD wires TR55 plugs

That quickly broke my bank, and I didn't have the money to gear the car, get a converter, or tune it..so I just cruised it around on nice days. With almost 100k on the clock, the stock 4l60e I had, started to give out. I decided to sell the VIG4400 stall I had purchased, and go with a A3 swap. I have just about everything I need for the trans swap to date, except for the converter.

Trans combo:
TH350 Trans
TCI Manual Reverse VB
Derale Pan
UMI TH350 LS1 Crossmember
TCI SFI LS1/Th350 Flexplate
ARP Flexplate Bolts
ARP Torque Converter Bolts
B&M Carbon Composite-x Shifter
Ultimate Converter Concepts 5000 stall

The last thing to tackle this winter, before its ready to make passes in the spring is the Rear End, and Suspension. I do not have the money to spend on a 12 bolt, or a 9" so I have to work with what I have, and hope the 10 bolt lives for a few minutes.

This is my rear-end/suspension setup:
PTP 4.10 Gears
Richmond Complete Installation Kit
UMI rod-end adjustable lower control arms
Comp Engineering 3way adjustable drag shocks
UMI Adjustable panhard bar
And the last three pieces to the puzzle, a BMR Adjustable torque arm, SFCs, and a 10pt chrome molly roll cage, that I still have to purchase.

Weight reduction is going to play an important factor if I want this turd to go 10s.

So far I have:
VFN Lift-Off hood
Back seats out
Front seats out
Kirky Drag Seat (Still have to purchase here asap)
Center Console out
15x10 prostar rears
15x3.5 Greg Weld fronts
Front Sway Bar removed
Wipers/Cowl/Wiper motor removed
A.I.R. Pump removed
AC/PS delete

I have to give a big thanks to my good buddy Trigger on here. He has helped me out countless times, weather it be me buying all his old parts for dirty good deals, or just him lending a hand turning the wrenches on this car, I owe him a big thanks. Also to my boss at the local speed shop I work for. Without his help on parts, the car wouldn't be where its at today, in just over a year of owning it. And last but not least, my dad. The one who first got me into this hobby, and teaching me everything I know, and helping me with the car all hours into the night!!

And here is the car today.

Comments, Opinions & Suggestions are always nice!

Hahah thanks man! And yes, my hometown forum is Motown Muscle. Whats your name on there? And yeah, I'd have to say EVERYTHING done on the car, has been done 100% by myself. Trigger did my lid for me when I first got the car, and my dad has helped me here and there. But for the most part I tackled the cam swap and everything else on my own. Only way to learn!

Thanks! Yes I do still have the stock wheels. I don't like to only have one set of wheels for the car. And when the car is being worked on, or sitting for a while, I like to set it on the stockers.
