Default Who runs tubes?

What are your guys opinions on running tubes in your slicks?

I know if you talk to M/T's tech, they reccommend it whereas Hoosier says you don't have to.

M/T's I am guessing? I had my car sitting in the trailer since early September and pulled it into the garage last week... it only lost 1 pound of air per tire. No tubes, no screws, Hoosier 10.5W's.

Harlow racing told me to put dish soap on the inside of the tire before you mount it and it will help keep your M/T's from leaking down.

Answering the question above, a tube is supposed to make the tire stiffer and last longer. But it does add weight and you then have to screw the tires to the wheels.

Yea M/T Drags, 26" tall, smallest they make, no screws Soaping the rim def helps.

Also tubes stiffen the sidewall which is exactly why you really dont want them in there for racing, you want the wall to wrinkle and asorb the energy, if its going to be driven on the street I would put tubes in.

I used to run tubes because I got sick of putting air in the tires. Then I had a tube failure around 115mph which scared the sht out of me. So now I don't have any prolblems putting air in the tires before racing.

I think that would have to depend on the shock/spring combo, race weight, drivetrain and a host of other things.

You can be as stiff as a radial or as marshmellow as a tubeless slick.

For those who really race, and I mean for either a class, or points, the expensive part isnt really building the car, its dialing in the tire combo, suspension setting, and gears/stall conveter. Not including time, gas, and racing fees.

Thats where the real $$$ comes in. And the reality is every car is different, even if its the same chassis.

We have tubes in our car that has cut 1.3x 60ft times. So i doubt tubes make u lose that much traction.

Read post #9 and get back to me.

I.E. Every car is different.

Oh, and not to toot my own horn but.....

https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-raci...id-inside.html

Just because I dont have the $$$ and I really dont want to "Joe Dirt" the car up, I'm taking my time, pulling wheels shows my car works, its works too well and I have to calm it down, and a set of shocks and springs and my own set of slicks and rims is over 1k and I dont have but when I do, a 3720 pound 11 second stick car is pretty sick, cam and bolt ons.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/eastern-members/988971-my-car-manned-f-ck-up-today-new-pb.html (check the vid, it shows the car slamming on the rear and It needs to be better controlled.

But like said, I dont expect you to understand.

That is exactly why you race cars in forums, I work on low 9 second cars, Larger cube LS2's with N20 on TH400 and you learn quite a bit, but I dont expect you to know that.

If I were to make a statement like you did, I would say your post count means your a noob and you should STFU. But, thats not how I work.

Awesome, gotta love that Magic air, -3000 Will certainly add a few MPH, def good luck on the run. Like said in a post in the Eastern Members forum, I am about 1,200$ away from 11 seconds and a cold day in NJ, vs LVD where I run. I run 12.3xx w/ a nearly zero DA vs what could be down there I think I am there already but $$$ Are just not there.

Either way, GL and dont read the book by its cover, and I look forward to the PM.
