Off topic but if your cars suspension is setup right, you shouldn't be putting the front up high enough to worry about comming down to hard That being said, if it still concerns you, invest in some Madman SYA bars!

My car

I will usually launch at upwards of 6500rpm and higher if the track will hold it.

The way the car is in the image, it will usually be a 1.42 or 1.43 60' It will ussualy carry the wheels about 30' to 40' out, and I shift to 2nd gear right as the wheels come back down. If you dump the clutch, you might pop a wheel off the ground and place it back down, if you slip the clutch, as I do, you will carry the wheels a bit as I do. If I had more power, I would carry the wheels more.

The reason why Auto's will carry the wheels longer is simple, a. they only have 3 acceloration gears as apposed to 4 in a manual car, so each gear is longer, therefore, they stay in 1st gear longer then a manual car will. Also, they have the converter slipping the whole time, unless they have a lock up, in which case it will not lock up untill 3rd gear anyway. You can slip your clutch just as much, but it will burn up. Joe pulls the wheels longer because he has a Soft-Loc clutch, or a slipper clutch, which acts like a converter untill it locks up at a higher RPM.

Point being, Manual cars pull wheels all the time.

Yes. You should slip the clutch out pretty quickly, but also smoothly. That is how you keep the RPM up and stay in your powerband. Otherwise the other guy was right, your motor will slow down too much and you will bog, spin, or simply run a **** 60'

The car leaves like that most of the time, unless it spins, or I tighten up the front shocks. I find that on cars that are slower then low 9's high 8's they will leave better with the front wheels as high as you can get. If I lift the wheels like you see in the photo, I will run a 1.42/1.43 60' but if I tighten up the shocks and leave at the same RPM, with only 1 or 2" under the front tires I will run a 1.48-1.50 60' With my experience, my car 60's better when its up and on the rear wheels.

What goes UP must come Down!

The auto cars have a converter, that is a big TQ multiplier, that make the hugh difference.

Good thing is, that no one has got them stuck up there yet! Auto or M6

Thats where a good clutch is very important.

I used to have a 75 shot on an old *** H/C combo that I bought used. I would have the window switch set from 3000 to 6600. I launched the car at 5000rpm and did 1.40 60's all day. Spraying the whole time since I never lifted off the throttle and shifted at 6200rpm. My CARTEK clutch did not skip a beat.

Yes the reason is completely the torque multiplication that the converter gives you.... 6 speeds are basically direct drive. There isn't any torque multiplication going on. The 2.48 1st gear in a TH400 don't help either... it allows the car to power out the hole with seemingly like a thousand foot lbs of torque..... and the car gets CRAZY high.... look at my youtube videos......

As cool as it looks and sounds to do it's not fun INSIDE the car, or the aftermath. i'm lucky. those sparks that shoot off the bottom of the car were mostly the SYA bars being folded under the headers like pretzels... and some of it was my brand new madman steering rack being bent... that's fixable so like i said i was lucky. It's cool for pics but i'm tired of it. I want to go out and not up and would like not to use wheelie bars yet....

stick cars will never leave like a built auto car with a high stall converter. it's just the nature of the beast.... but then again I can't cruise down the highway doing 80 with 4.11's and turning the motor at 2200 rpms.. LOL

Yeah I wanted to do it a long time ago when i was building the car. I was like "I wanna yank em and drag the bumper"...... that was until I started paying repair bills... but at this point we're glad that we have the suspension figured out to take whatever we can throw at it. NOw we'll focus on limiting the front suspension and possibly adding some weight to the nose....
