I would get a generator. The invertor will kill a battery pretty quick. Get a generator in the 3500wt range and then is you need a battery charger for the car etc you will have reserve power.

calculcate everything you plan on running and size accordingly. Also plan for any possible upgrades to your trailer...for example...I added a small 120V air compressor to mine and it pulls a fair amount of power...

I run a 5KW Honda generator in mine...

how do you calculate the initial draw. i heard they spike like wth an airconditioner. it might take 600watt to run but spike to 1200 when starting. any word?

FOr generator capacity, take everything that you have in the trailer, add it all up and multiply by 2.5 that will insure that you have enough power to do what you want, you really don't want to be running it at max load if you don't have to.

Figure the fan, figure whatever an a/c unit will draw, etc.etc even if you don't have it yet.

A 5000 watt generator would be a good choice IMO, if you happen across a good deal on one bigger then that I wouldn't pass it up either.

When it comes to stuff like generators, it's never a bad idea to have more then you need.

I've got a 5500 in mine, but mine is more like a motorhome. Generator is the way to go. Mine is an Onan, but I have friends who have bought everything from nice Honda's to the Autozone special Champion. All depends what noise level you want.

This is what my buddy has. A little loud, but if you sit it on the other side of the trailer, you won't really notice. And, you can't beat the price.

The Honda is very quiet. You could whisper and someone can hear you. That's one of the reasons that it will cost you around 2K for a honda. My buddy probably has 200-250 hours on his Champion. It's a 4 stroke and uses about a tank of gas every 8-10 hours depending on the load. We even used it to power the TIG when we welded up my cage

I have the 4000 champion that has the RV plug. It is fantastic. No one believes it is as quiet as it is until I fire it up. It is like 68 db and a honda is like 63 or 64. 1/4 the price and marginally louder. I've never had a complaint by the person pitted next to me. I got mine for $299 and I've seen it for $199 on special.

I got mine at Kragen which is called something else in other parts of the country. It was $299 in store and a few times they had it on sale for $199 if you could wait to catch it.

If you google the part number you will see the reviews on it. It is HUGE in the RV world. I found it by googling a different generator and came upon an RV forum where everyone loved it. It is actually the same generator as the champion 4500, but they down rate it when it has the RV plug. Lots of guys run AC, lights etc on it.

I have run two electric heaters in the trailer, all the 120 lights in the trailer, a battery charger, my laptop and a big fan for a friends car. The generator wasn't even high idling under the load. I've also run a heat gun for my bottle without issue and my 3 gal compressor for my tires.
