Default Witch 16" DR hooks better??

I got another set of stock z28 rims(16x8) for the street, What my car came with. There ok not my #1 choice wheel, bot not bad looking. Little heavy # 20.950 eash with the centercaps.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y11...n/IMG_2884.jpg

And looking to run a larger DR (27.5"- 28"). My drag only wheel setup is, gregweld/prostars are the 28x10.5 stiff ETdrags, and work great. But looking to run these most of the time this summer, not on long trips ect. But still hook ok at the track, and street. I know with the m6 there not goign to dead hook off the limiter.

Looks like there 2 close DR sizes
http://store.summitracing.com/compar...1&autoview=sku

Mickey Thompson 3794R
295/50-16 Or about 27.69x10x16
Minimum Recommended Rim Width (in): 8.00 in.

So they should be fine on stock 16x8s. But I'm turned off by how heavy they are listed at 33# a tire
Next is the:

M&H DR ROD08
275/55-16 or about 28.0x9x16
Minimum Recommended Rim Width (in): 9.00 in.
But I've seen them on stock snowflakes and they fit fine, the sidewall width is alot less the the MT sized safe for a 8inch rim. I'm gona call to find out there weights. But that seam to be in stock easily, the MT last I checked a few weeks ago were on there way

The both cost about the same price. Anyone running either DR on stock wheels? The MT sounds like a big *** tire, but alot of auto guys get some GREAT short times on them. But I havn't see that size yet. Not heard anything on the M&H? looking for any feedback, the search wasnt finding anything.
thanks

I've always had great luck with MT's only brand I'll ever run after trying most the alternatives, can't say I have any experience with M&H's though, hear they're good

not sure how well a 295 will fit on an 8" rim, my 275s bubble pretty well on my 15x8 prostars

ya I know, I was wondering that myself but see it listed as fitting a 8inch rim?

whats size MT are you running? I know some locals, with 3800-4400 stall autos running 11's getting low 1.5s on the smaller 26" 255/16 MT DR. Even seen bad2000z (seth) pull the front tires are few inches. I hate you auto guys.

What size are you wanting? I'm running the Hoosier 255/50/16 DRs, they hook very well, as well as a MT, i'm in the market for a 27" tire, these are 25.8", but the only other Hoosier in a 16" are 28" tall, so i'll have to resort to a 15" to get a 27" tall tire.

I just put on a set of MT radial 295/50/16 and they are hooking fine. They are pretty heavy as you stated. I had them out only once and best 60' so far is 1.43 on my all motor 402 Vette.

The car has seen lower 60 but in in much better air though with with a 315 MT radial.

What wheels do you have the tires mounted on? If it's a 8" rim how are they fitting, and driving on the street. Do you have any pics of them.
Thats a great short time, your car is a auto?

If its not going to be your dedicated race setup and your planning on spinning some regardless I would just be safe and run a 255/ 16 MT they hook really well for the size and you wont have to worry about them not fitting. That what the car in my sig was using when it ran the 11.69..

They are on Bogart Welded RT 10" wide. I don't drive it the street much but they feel great at 130 on the track.

Yes it is an auto. Beefed up Vette Doctors built trans with 3.90 or 4.10 gears, I forget we change them so much. QA1 single adjustables all the way around.

Ripped a couple of 1.39's today

I run the Hoosier 255/50/16 tire on Prostars. Best 60-ft is 1.42 compared to 1.48 on the same size in MT DR (different converter). The Hoosiers are definitely softer and also lighter compared to the MT's,but they wear super fast.

I run the M&H Tires and have great luck with them. The M&H Muscle car drags 305/40/16 on some old lt1 rims were nice too. gained 5 tenths over nittos. Have not tried m/t dr's yet only et streets and et drags. I like the M&H over the m/t's I have tried.

really you like those muscle car tires, thats like there cheater slick right? over the MTs? How are thouse on the street, and hyway?

just a update, I orded the Mand H right off there site after talking to them. (wanted to get the MT from summit to use the Atech price but they have been on back order sence last year) And that PN has been replaced with a slightly wider ROD18

I'll post up how these tires do. They look really nice so far.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
https://ls1tech.com/forums/wheels-ti...x8-wheels.html
------

just some more info I was looking at that tires alot, and the simlar M&H. I just got M and H and they just updated them. Same size, 275/55/16 the old PN was ROD08 now its ROD18 but the section with is 10.4 over the older 9.8 or somthing smaller. But they have a 9.5 contact patch and a 28.0 over the MTs that are 27.5 The MT are heavier I seen listed at 33-35 a tire. These M and Hs are 29.5#.
thats new MT II tread looks alor better for the street then the older one. I'm intrusted in how long they last. These MandH have .200 tread depth, off the rim there were like 8.5 inside the beads relaxed, so there fine on the 16x8. Summit pushed the MT backorder again, cool jegs has them. I got might right from MandH
