A stock 80 will handle 6-700rwhp. I've seen it done many times around here. A good friend had one built locally with lots of upgraded parts for under 2K Of course you will still need a converter so you can tack on another 500-1500.00 depending on if you want a "big" name or not.

I thought you were selling your motor/Tranny setup?

Yup I was selling it and was gonna get a BBC and all that but after talking with a bunch of people, mostly on YellowBullet and with Cartek they were saying for what I want to do with the car I should stay with what I have and just put a small shot (150) on it. I decided to get the GV so I could drive it at higher speeds on the highway and also so I could keep my set up (converter/gears) for N/A performance and have the OD for the nitrous.
That's the plan this week

A very nicely built 4l80 can be had for half of $8K, I bet I could scam a decent converter in the price. Dont know why you guys think they are so much. Just start with the right year core and its isnt that bad.

If you're close, you can put me in there to loose some poundage and get ur 8 second slip Im used to three pedals, but I think I can figure out how to work it with only 2...

Rossler has on their site a 4L80E that's good to 1800 horse and has gone in the 7's. No way that trans is 4k, they have a 4L60E listed for just around 3k probably closer to 4k with all the options. I wonder what their 4L60E holds. My little 350 from them has held up to mid 9 sec passes with no issues. Had it for years.

Would be sweeeeeet to have a 4L80E that can hold all that power.

i dont know if if this would be a good idea on cars with high stall converters guys. i can see doing on cars with lock up converters but that would be like going back to a 3:20 gear. sounds like it might cause a lot of tranny heat to me.

Guy at GV said for my set up I would be effectively dropping my final gear ratio from 3:73 to 2:90.
Even with a non-lockup, which according to Rossler a lock up th350 would only save about 200-300 rpms locked up anyway and he said it wasn't worth it but anyway the tranny will still spin at highway speeds much lower in OD than without it and that will keep the heat down. 2500 rpms is 2500 rpms regardless of the stall converter. If I can go 70mph at 2500 then it's worth it to me.

the gv unit sounds cool.i have gearstar level 4 4l85e with yank sc3000 11inch.they say it is rated at 1ooohp.i control it with tci stand alone unit(super cool).i just leave it in d and go it shifts at 7000 every time at wot.yes 11in yank blows for 60ft(1.85).even with the od it still buzzes to high for me so i really like gv option.

Gearstar, is that the one that costs nearly 8k? I think that's the one I was talking about earlier. You can still do the GV behind your 4L80.
My unit arrived yesterday.
I was gonna try and install it myself but it's over my head I think. You have to check driveline angles and shim stuff, lotta wiring, forget it. I know when to step back
To me it looks like a whole days work easy, IF you know what you're doing, which I don't haha.
If my buddy Rick thinks it's gonna be easy and he wants to tackle it we'll do that but to me, looks like alotta work, especially in the driveway on your back. I'll probably call the chassis shop on monday to make an appointment.

Oh yeah, I'm not surprised that 11" is killing your short time. That's what I was saying earlier, when you're not making huge power that 60' has gotta be there.
Cool as **** though to have that trans in an f body though. Very cool.

yes that it is the $8000 unit.i only paid $5000(zack gave me good deal).about the converter it is susposed to be sc3000 but is more like 2600-2700.this makes car leave like so slow(like pinto).i do have some power in the form of a thomson built ls7.mods--diamond 12-1 lunati crank k1 rods mild ls7 heads(ti parts/flo 380cfm).rear is strange s-60 4.10.motor made 653hp with stock quad flo made 664 with 21n arh lt,s on thomson superflo.it went 10.60 at 130 with shitty 1.85 60ft.all on full weight+2002 ta(still have spare tire in).i just installed nitrous outlet plate system hope i might see a 9,90 et.after i test with gas i wiil get correct converter and lose 300-400 pounds.your car is super cool i am trying to modle mine after yours.

send the converter in and they will reflash it for you one time at no charge(used to anyway)
the 80e has an overdrive of .083, so its not much of one compared to a 60(.70) or a th200 at .67.
its higher because it was designed for towing, but still drop rpms a tad.
good luck with it. sounds like its a fun setup.

Neal Chance 8" is good to like 800 horse. No way you'll need a 10", if you can get the smaller one I'd go with that. Maybe the 4L80 is different as far as converter size/performance.
