Default Attempting to remove front swaybar...uh...

No this isn't another "is it safe to drive?" thread. I'm taking it off, I just encountered a strange issue.

Those of you who have removed these probably remember it being a really quick process, disconnect the end links, remove four bolts (two on each bushing) and it drops off...but it looks like mine was taken off by a previous owner and put back on incorrectly at some point in time.

The first three bolts came off no trouble at all, then I went to put the socket over the fourth and realize there was no head. I crawled under the car for a closer look and this is what I found....

How is that even possible? Does the whole piece that the bushing mounts to come out or something? Am I going to just have to disconnect that whole piece with the swaybar and drop it all out at the same time, or should I just take a cutting wheel to this thing?

I took mine off and took all of the mounts etc. with it. I unbolted all the mounts off the frame (that is a 2ndary piece you are looking at that attaches to teh side of the frame rail on the outside) which once it's off, you can drop the swaybar with the brackets and everything right off. Take the brackets off for the extra lb of weight savings

The swaybar was disonnected at the end links already the whole time I've been driving it so im not worried about how it handles. i've actually never driven an fbody with the front swaybar on so I have nothing to compare it to, but the car feels fine to me

That little bracket is supossed to be there like that from factory. If you pull the inner fender out you will see where that bolts too inside also. But yeah I just removed everything on mine.

Yup it's two 10mm head bolts inside the drivers side inner fender about 5" above the sway bar bushing and there about 5" apart from each other.

Do I need to remove anything to access the bolts for the bushing mounts? I just have the front of the car lifted up now, the wheels aren't even off. I'm at work for a while longer so I can't mess with it now, but when I remember poking around in there it seemed like some tight access to that mount.

Nope, just 13mm head bolts and thats it, the "u" brackets come off with the whole sway bar.

I finally got around to finishing this up today. It was exactly as you described Diablo, thanks a lot. Can't believe I didn't notice those bolts before.
