Wow that's pretty crazy man. What kind of axles were they? According to Mosers axle hp calculator, that shouldn't happen to a 31 sp axle at your power level. What kind of spool was it? I was talked out of going with the 35's when I purchased my 9, now I'm kind of wishing I had gone with the 35's lol...
35 spline axles are going to weigh quite a bit more than the 31's. Can you weigh and compare when you get them?

In fact, the big block in my 3550# makes more torque than most any LS based engine. The Moser axles have lasted fine after numerous 4500 RPM hits off the trans brake.
Not to knock Strange or Mark Williams, but no one on here with an F-Body should run into any problems with a correctly sized Moser axle.

Damn Rob, sorry to hear. This is the reason I went with the stronger parts the first time. I went 35 splined and spool. Now I just gotta get the bitch lightened and suspension dialed in. Gonna have to get Matt D to put my car on a diet lol.

But Moser does not make junk.
Do you have any Rockwell tests to substantiate your claims of "hardness" differences?
How about some acid etching of test specimen to show faulty heat treat or poor metallurgy?
Any other sort of quantifiable data that may show that Moser is not producing a quality product?
I happen to deal with these issues on a daily basis, so I am relatively familiar with the machining, heat treating, and assembly of powertrain components.
I can tell you on my two cars and 4 others in my family, we have Moser axles. Things go wrong and things fail, especially when racing, but there is nothing wrong with Moser axles.

ps, i have only built 1 of my own cars [out of about a 100 we,ve built for ourselves through the years] with stange axles and its more of a test to see how they hold up.They are in my vette, its 3400+lbs and they are 40 spline GD axles. they are still good after 22 passes but we havent hit the car hard yet, only been 5.30's and real low 8's on 1 sytem.but i do check them more than i ever checked my moser's
here,s my old wagon, 3800lbs,5.50 in the 1/8 .also realize radial's will tear up s### faster than a bias tire.

and on the same note, Ive seen strange gun drilled 40 spline axles brake within 2 weeks on a 3400 car running 4.50,s in the 1/8.He had to go to solid axles, and strange only just started making street axles [in the last few yrs,,as they see they are losing business. no one will warranty 31 spline axles......... and a gunned drilled axle on a heavy car is looking for trouble, it make them twist easier, than a solid axle.and need to be checked more] we have used 35 spline axles [from Moser] in 3600 lb cars dam my wagon was 3800lbs twisted 35 spline [first set in 25 yrs of dealing with Moser],also first set of gun drilled axles ever used by us only twisted 3 spline's but they took them in trade on 40 spline stuff.Personally gun drilled is not worth 'the little weight they save, have seen more of them break, esp in real car,s i.e. cars over 3200lbs. even strange will tell you NG on a heavy car....again I'm not going to get into a debate on torque, heat treating, physic,s or the moon alignment, just can say from many low 8 sec 3500lbs+ cars and 25 yrs of building cars, never broke a Moser axle, but we never use less than 35 spline ,and yes people have broken them, and strange, and MW;s .but it is metal so sometimes thing fail, but less with bigger spline's![Nod](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_nod.gif)
