Why go with a drop spindle? i'm all about a lighter splindle, but why a drop?

i had a set on my car and ended up taking them off.... car set too low for me and took lots of travel out of the front.... and with the shitty tracks around here we always keep lots of travel in the front.

We go from stock to 1.5" of drop in .5" increments. The reason is that when you want to slam the front of the car the suspension geometry gets messed up. Front tires end up looking like this / ---- \. With the drop built into the spindle we can lower the car a bit and not change geometry. We are also not changing travel in theory. In reality you will loose a bit of travel due to the nature of lowering the car.

And slamming the car does what for me? I could see less drag and lower center of gravity.

i ended up buying a set of stock height spindles from burkhart... when you use them you can then use a 3rd gen brake so the price off sets each other...

Lowering the car will help prevent wheelstands, it can also help stop a car from transferring too much weight, something that can be an issue when you get enough power.

Slam may have been a poor choice of words. Lowering is a good way to look at it. If you want to drop the ride height by an inch or 2 you can do most of it through the spindle and not use the coil over. Helps with travel, geometry and alignment.

I used a 2" drop spindle on my car with the Strange SA shocks. Cranking the front shocks up to achieve the same ride height caused the shocks to run out of extension. I lowered it an inch to keep a bit more upward travel, but would have liked to keep it higher for loading onto the trailer. Other shocks may be a bit different but the Strange combined with a drop spindle act like travel limiters.

Loading on the trailer is my only concern, as it is I was using a set of 30 inch 2x10's to help get the nose to not hit, just have to get a set of 5 footers now and put a support in the middle

It's a pita, but if it helps keep the nose down and the car from standing up, and gets it moving forward more then rotating up, then lowering the whole car is worth it.

I'd run the damn exhaust thru the front 1/4's if I could (rules prevent it)

My car works fine with 2" racecraft drop spindles, AFCO's at all 4 corners with 275 lb springs in the front, and cut stock springs in the back. 1.34 60' times on 180 shot, carrying the fronts just a few inches.

The other added benefit of our spindles is weigh reduction. Our spindle and a set of 3rd gen drag brakes are less that the factory cast spindle. You can drop a ton of weight off the front.

i'd advise the .5" drop for most any car... a 2" drop is more suited for a back half or big tire S/S car.... for most of us that run on a track that is lucky to have a "decent" prep out to 60" with lots of speed bumps and waves along the way all that travel is needed....

i ran the 2" drops on mine and almost lost my oil pan at the end of the track in clarksville.... big dip at the finish line... scared the **** outa me... when you're running 125+ those small dips turn into ditches.

I have a 1.5" drop on mine. I have not run the car yet but clearance looks OK. .5" would still help.
