Default 6 speed and Nitrous in NMCA Street Race...

Wondering if I am completely off base thinking that I could be competitive in the NMCA Street Radial class with a 408 nitrous assisted combo using a 6 speed. Should I just cut my losses and ditch the 6 speed? Obviously very few guys use manual transmissions but I have to say I really enjoy shifting the gears during a pass.

I don't have any experience with nitrous but really want to get into heads up racing instead of index racing.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

The fastest time in 09 was 8.68. It was with a nitrous fed sbc. Their are a couple of LS powered entries in the class and their times are in the 8.80's.

I would like you said cut your losses and go auto,to be competive.Soon as you start spraying the car with the 6spd its going to be very hard to get a clean pass on the bottle.I was in the same sitation as you ;loved banged those gears in a 6spd,but it was just not happening.

put a jerico in it or a g-force tranny if you want to have a stick in it

I didnt see if they use a pro tree in that class but I would bet all the competitive cars have autos.
Yep, pro .400 tree.
I don't believe there has been a manual shifted car in the class before

It is a blast shifting it but the reality is you will do better with an auto. I'd do a glide or a th400. You will be able to control the spay and the car better with an auto also.

if no aftermarket style stick shifts then you better go auto.... i hate it that so many classes outlaw after market style manual trannys

if I read correctly, you can have a Pro Shifted tranny made, or Face Plated. Thats about it. I saw "Purpose Built" but assume like a Jerico or Lenco.

You're gonna have a hard time being competitive in that class even with an auto.. leaving a stick in the car will make it next to impossible to really be competitive.

Put a 1.80 first gear glide in the car and you'll stand a hell of a alot better chance of getting down the track consistantly, which at that level starts to get somewhat hard.

Be ready to break some parts too, a 408 can run as fast as you need to go, but with nitrous, you're gonna be hurting some stuff to do it for sure, at least until you get a handle on a tuneup with the amount of nitrous it's gonna take (500HP worth at a min I'd think)

I dunno exactly what the car has to have to participate in that class.. but you can still have s decently equipped car with the needed safety stuff come in probably under 3400, that's light enough so a glide will work.

Glides don't work in 3700 lb 600 hp cars, but once you're in that 800+ hp range and under 3500 they'll work. 1.8 first gear will work fine, a 1.69 first gear might not, but 1.8 should be fine.

You do realize this class is limited to a 0.550" lift cam right? a stock 2002+ LS6 cam has 0.551" intake...

Seems similar to NMRA's EFI renegade class on 275 radials.

That's not a problem. Ya just have a cam cut with 550 lift that's got about 280/290 for duration, it will still make power

I'd go auto. What raceweight would you need to be at? Looks like you can run a 92 jet with the nitrous.

94 jet with Nitrous New for 2010
76mm Turbo (up from 72mm) New for 2010
In car A2W Inter coolers New for 2010
Aluminum Rods New for 2010
Turbo Combos up'ed from 360ci to 365ci New for 2010

The rules have been opened up some. NMCA Street Radial will be on the heels of Extreme Street this year.

You have to go Auto.
I saw you made the top 10 in LMEFI. Congrats.

The class is really going to be fast this year.

I already know of one guy building a 2010 Camaro Turbo car.

No Turbo cars have been in it for 2 years.
08' was a 70mm with a T4 housing flange.
09' was a 72mm with a T4 housing flange.
10' is a 76mm with a T4 housing flange.

Should be interesting.
N2O cars (Fox body mustangs) have been dominating.

JL and I were talking about the rules and def they are skwed towards Automatics and as far as is post is concern. You need to have the trans face plated and possibly needs to run in a Foxbody stang.

A 364 ci ls2 based motor, with a T76 would be a very good combo for that class... but a 92 jet is a decent sized jet as well.. I can see that still remaining a solid path as well..

Either way I think it's gonna pick up a good bit this year, those cars are all gonna be in the bottom 8 second speed now I'd bet.
