2 Step or leave off the limiter (teach me)
Geting a rear and slicks this winter..That should help my turd out..Iv seen a very similar car like mine..Very close Hp/Tq numbers its a Silver SS..6 speed
Started very low 12s like mine (crappy tires 2.2 60s) ...now he has ended up 11.25s..
Now he is a little lighter than me Im sure..but Id love to be 11.40s-11.49
A full second just because it hooked and right gearing!!
Im going with a 28in Slick and a 4:56 gear..
My limiter is set a 7000..that seems a little high for me to leave off of..
So for $250-300 should I jsut get a two step? I dont know much about them..I get how they work as far as cuting a cylinder but do they use a button or is it all of the computer? Teach me about a two step

many manual guys wire it so that when the clutch is pressed in the 2 step is active and when you release the clutch it is disabled. This also allows for you to bang gears without lifting your foot off the gas.

I dont like 2 steps at all.. They seem more detrimental, its really not that hard to watch your rpms and launch at the same or similar spot every time.
fwiw you shouldnt have to leave off the limiter, 6500 or so should be more than enough.
And the last time at the track I went 11.01, 11.03, 11.05, 1.42, 1.43, 1.44 60's back to back, without a 2 step.

Now if I set my lauch rpm at say 6500..Can I shift it at 68 or so..or how does that work..[/QUOTE]
YES. your 2-step will be set for just your launch setting and you will still have your normal rev limiter setting. Im also in the market for a 2step and leaning towards the msd 2step.

i ran a msd 2 step off my msd 6al in my old 96 formula. ran the sidewinder shift **** to engage it. launched at 6k 2 step. without the 2 step it ran 12.40's using the 2 step it ran 12.204's. easy and simple with the shiftknob. after i launched i simply slid my finger off the button. granted it was just a bolt on lt1 so it only 60 footed low 1.6's on a 26 et street

I've got mine hooked to the clutch switch and a momentary switch.
Push in the clutch hit the button and floor it....
The momentary switch eliminates the back fire.

Just get yourself a Lingenfelter LNC-002 and install it as the diagrams shows. The best part about it is if you decide to start using Nitrous it has a timing retard function as well.
If your transmission and clutch are stock I would hate to see what it would look like after a 7K launch. If I could make one suggestion it would be a good idea to install a flywheel shield.
As one of the OP stated if you set it at 6K when you push your clutch to the floor and push the go pedal all the way to the floor the engine revs to 6K. When you sidestep the clutch you are leaving at WOT. When you make your shifts leave your go pedal on the floor and when you depress clutch the engine will not rev past 6K even if you where at 6,800 before depressing the clutch.
It is the best way to be consistent as one of the OP stated.
Be safe and have fun! One last thing good luck on getting the 28's to fit it is tough to say the least!

If you're doing any kind of racing at all, the two step will make it much easier to be consistent. I guarantee if you're running on a pro tree and try to modulate the pedal the same each time, you're going to be late every time or you won't leave at the same rpm every time. Especially if it's heads up. However, if you're not doing any racing then no you don't need a two step. They just make things a little easier.

Obviosuly things have gotten a lot easyer today with todays tech...I think it would have to be a lot easyer than watching your tach adn trying to watch the tree..I guess I just need to get good at "listening" to the motor..
