Default The answer you want for the AC delete question

I did alot of searching before I did my ac delete, I did the delete of just the front of the case and the ac coil, From under the hood. I read a ton of post, I kept my heater, notched the case, and made a little duct to push the air across the heater core and a cover for the outside out of thin sheet metal. During all my reading I seent the question asked what does removing these parts weigh. But I never seen an answer, so when I did mine, I kept every little piece and weighed it all together on my bathroom scale, this includes the oil that was in the coil, which is in yours too. What was the weight....
7.2 lbs
was this job a pita, yes and it made a mess of the underhood but thats because I used a cutoff wheel and grinding pad to flush it up with the firewall. My honest opinion, is it worth it for the weight alone,, NO but it is worth the extra room way, worth it and it looks so much cleaner also. So there ya go now ya know.
I did this because my ac system was shot, and Im not gonna put a ton of money into it when I have t-tops.

Im just seeing a red x, but I would be very interested in seeing how it looks. Im thinking about doing the same thing. Simply to make more room, the weight reduction is just a bonus. In WI, I can deal without AC, but I need to keep the heat so the wife is happy.

Edit: Nevermind, the picture works for me now. Looks really good. Could you elaborate on the duct you made to push air across the heater core? Is it just to connect the blower motor to the heater core? Did you have to remove any of your dash, or did you just notch the case and make the duct from the engine bay?

sure just about everything you want to know is in this thread it goes into a lil more detail about the duct I was talking about.

I am with you on doing without the Ac its heavy, nice when working but costly as all get out to fix. Not worth the hassle to me, had it been working, it would still be in there though.

Did you do this with that long block in the car? I was gonna pass on doing it this season because I don't want to pull my dash and the motor isn't coming out for a build for another few years yet.

Ditto, I did mine while sitting on the k-member. I cheated, I took my sawzall and just cut thru everything about a 1/2 inch from the firewall, the ac coil and all, then cut everything flush. The panel I made was pretty easy. I trimmed the box flush with the firewall, there is a metal ring/border around the hole when the parts are out, I took some vaseline and grease and rubbed it on the ring and the heads of the bolts, then pushed my rough cardboard template against it, when I removed it Bingo, I had the perfect template plate, cut it out, put some sealer along the metal ring and screwed my panel on. Then the paint (aerosol overhaul). and done.

It would be possible to do this by removing the dash and pulling the heater core, right? I still have to remove the airbag and bracket in mine, so I have a reason to pull the dash. If not then I'll be hitting myself in the head for not doing this while the engine was out last year...

oldish thread but what did you need to do in order to relocate the water pump heater hoses lower on the firewall? I am going to do this to mine when I get back and I don't want to ugly *** hoses at the top still. Thanks man.
