Default 31 spline axles?

I can get a pretty good deal on a ford 9 with spool but the axles are 31 spline
Moser said 600hp rating and a lot less with a 6 speed and slicks
In the real world when will these break?

330 NA hp and 480 on spray
Next year 450 NA and 600 on spray
3500 lb race wieght
Thanks

The axle splines will likely start to twist long before they actually break. But, I ran the times in my sig last year with a standard width 9" and Moser 31 spline axles. Axles looked perfect when I pulled them out a couple months ago to replace with 35's. I'd say they had at least 75-80 passes on them.

This was with a 6sp also.....

Subscribing i'm curious. I got a 9" spool with 31 spline axles also haha. I am hoping they hold for awhile, i have a 6 speed now but going to go to an A3 soon. Plan to eventually go single digits so i'll see how long she holds haha.

You will break them in half. 35 spline minimum with a 6 speed and slicks if you over 400 hp.You will twist them first then they will break,i have seen it happen last year to a friend of mine with 450 hp and m6. Your choice, but you have been warned.

What about 33's? Moser said 1100hp for the 33's. I can upgrade it for 600 to 33's but need a new case to go to 35's

Erik from Midwest chassis told me I would be fine up to 600 rwhp with 4.11's, 6 speed and slicks with 31 spline strange axles. Guess I will find out if when our track opens next month. My car is around 430 rwhp and I also went with the yukon billet trac-loc. Maybe the moser 31 spline axles are junk?

I have Moser 31 spline, launch at 5-6K dumping the twin disc clutch on my 6 speed, 4.11, spooled, slicked Formula, with no problems at all, been doing that for 2 years now.

Imo it's a borderline type deal with an M6, some break, some work.... but why tempt it?

i regularly go mid 1.40 sixty foots on stock gm 12 bolt axles in a 3200 lbs. car. it runs 10.90 to 11.0 i have been doing this to the tune of about 175-200 passes a year for around five years. and this is with slicks and a trans brake. is it smart? probably not. does it work? so far it has. the 31 splines should be stronger than the stock 12 bolt stuff that i have so good luck

I have some Strange 31's that I've been running mine for about two months with a handful of low 1.3x 60's and 3500lbs. Hasn't broke or twisted yet, but I plan on upgrading to 35's and a 5/8th wheel stud soon just for the safety .

Usually when I'm bracket racing it's only in the 1.5x's though.

I can get pretty dam good deal localy. Think I'll try it just getting the car going this year. I can tear it down this winter and upgrade to a 33 spline which should be strong enough. 35 seems to be overkill for what I want to do in the car.

was at the track last weekend and saw a h/c/I lt1 car pop a moser right on the starting line...whole pumkin came out...said he had it for a couple years...m6 car

I would not get moser axles...go with some strange...33 spline here in my a4 with 1.3 60fts...

if I had a m6 it would be 35 spline all day...plus you can get them gundrilled of you are worried about weight

pm 98bluesscamaro...puts down 450 m6 slicks 6k launches on a prepped track and bent some 31 splines pretty good...

I have alot of street miles and track passes on my MWC 9" with 31 splines. I run nitto 315s on the street and 26x11.5x15 ET Streets (bias ply) on teh track and it still going strong. I just pulled it a couple weeks ago to sell it(only because I bought a roller with a Moser 9", spool and 40 splines) and the axles and splines still looked great.

The more weight you get out of the car the less trouble you will have with them, but my car was a full weight 01 WS6 with a full stereo and everything, im guessing I was at or over 3800 lbs.

im pretty sure a gun drilled 35 spline axle is weaker than a 31 spline axle. i went straight to a strange 35 spline, spool, and 5/8 studs bc i had a 6 speed, should be overkill now that i have an auto.

I've been 1.50 60's on my moser 31 splines. 6 speed car full weight and 5k clutch dumps on 28" MT slicks. I just pulled an axle to rpelace a stud today and the splines were perfectly straight. I have seen MANY 12 bolt 33 splines twisted up to half a slpine or more before. Crazy how much give there is...

Go to moser's website and run the calculator, based on a few factors you can see if they are enough.

At the Moment the link is down, they re-did the website, you will have to search for one but basically the rule they stated was something like 3 times the maximum force expected on the axles is what they wanted to see. If a given spline was not at that level, they recommened moving up.

People can at least figure out the TQ multiplication factor.

1st gear ratio x rear gear ratio x RWTQ @ the Launch RPM

But raceweight still factors and I do not not know the raw calc.

I highly doubt that and will have to look at my materials books here...it has been a while...tubes are strong as hell as long as the surface finish is smooth to reduce stress points...

also moser is only surface heat treated...strange is thru heat treatment...
