Thumbs up DRAG RADIAL help for a 15x10 wheel, 28" tall,TH400, transbrake

I know guys out there are running killer times on a 275 drag radial, that's not the question here.

My question in setting up a drag radial car (see sig), is what brand/compound/width everyone would go with if this were their car. Just want to start a discussion of options and anything you've found from experience.

The car has:
-Full aftermarket UMI adj. suspension
-~3400 lbs,
-TH400 with a transbrake and 5400 stall
-Billet Specialties 15x4, 15x10 wheels
-275 lb springs, QA1-Rs in front (w/ UMI adj. control arms and K-member)
-Comp. Engineering 3-ways w/ stock springs out back
-~600 HP flywheel

I'm leaning towards a 275/60/15 or 325/50/15 MT ET Street Radial. THOUGHTS??

Please refrain from "put slicks on it, ET Drag, etc etc."

For a TB, the 325 is the better tire...it will take more "hit". I use it and have used the smaller dr's....the 315 is king.

Good to know...what kind of setup were you running?

Are you planning on running any classes that limit tire size? As far as brand goes people have gone fast with all of them MT, Goodyear, and Hoosier. How much power does the car make? Do you have adjustable shocks all the way around?

I'm up in the air on classes as of now. I'll update the OP to answer the rest of your setup questions

I've used both size's and never had a problem unless the track prep was shitty. You can make both work well and use a 10" rim for either one. On my old set up we'd leave at 3500rpm with the 2 step and transbrake with nitrous coming on after I let go of the button. The car would 60 foot consistently in the 1.30-1.32 range on either tire.

Here are a couple video's from last April on 275 Drag Radials with a single 150 shot. We were shaking down the new nitrous set up and never turned it up. Sorry for the video's as my dad was using his new video camera for the first time and he was a little shakey.

Just this past weekend here in California a couple of 275 radial guys went 7.60's at 186mph+ so you can make the 275's work well.

I have run the M/T 275 dr and love it. I also see ALOT of fast cars on this tire. With the right suspension you will like it too. Tires can only help your combination so much, then you have to dial in your suspension!

Here is a baby launch in the Blue Hawk on 325's . Track prep is almost zero. I'd run a 315 if I could fit it without mini tubs.

All cars are different so you might need to experiment to find out what works best for you. I've used MT E.T. Streets, MT ET Street drag radials, and Hoosier QTP DOT tires and I've had my best 60' times with the 275 MT ET Street drag radials.
I had several people with thirdgen race cars tell me the hoosiers were the way to go, I could never get them to consistently hook and they didn't drive on the street well. They work great on some cars but they weren't for me.
I like the ET streets too, they hooked consistently. They drove better on the street than the hoosiers and lasted a long time.
I feel like I'm getting the best of both worlds with the MT drag radials they are by far my favorite tire that I've tried so far. I'm getting my best 60' times with them and the car drives great on the street with them. I would probably go with a 275 DR to start and see how it hooks. I always like to go with the smallest tire that you can hook with to avoid the exta weight of the larger tire. You can always go to the larger size later if you need to.

MT has an ET "Drag Radial" and a DOT approved ET "Street Radial." I just want to make sure that everyone is on the same page in talking about the Street Radial that looks like this:

This is what I'm looking to use.

Also, MT only suggests using the 275/50/15 on a 9.5" wheel at the largest. I'll be giving them a call tomorrow to get more of an idea about the tire because over-stretching it would be counter productive...I haven't bought the wheels yet so I can adjust either way.

Yes the ET Street radials are the ones I was talking about and I think everyone else too.

The the vein of the discussion.

Looks fine, either width will work. All I can say is if you can dump more weight or ADD light weight parts, then do so. Thats going to help the tire work better.

I think the Hoosier 275 drag radial is a little better tire for anything other than a PERFECT track.

We have been 1.20 60' with them and pretty much always get down just about any track.
