Default How much did my 60 ft kill my time?

Well took my car to the rack last night ( 98 Z28 A4 vert w/SLP lid p&p TB and subframe connectors) and with an altitude of 5800ft the best I ran was 15.071 at 94.67 MPH (corrected 13.9 at 101) with a crappy 2.398 60 ft. The track sucked I could not get off the line no matter what I did with out spining 40-60 ft every time. I lowered my psi to 22psi and still couldn't hook to save my life. So my question is if I would have gotten a good 60ft how much do you think that would have knocked off of my time? Also any advice to help me launch next time? Thanks

WOW...You would be surprised at how much it matters getting that 60' time down. Every 10th saved in the 60 is at least doubled at the end of the track.

Judging by your wow I really suck, so around .5 difference you think? Any tips? I was brake torquing at 1400 Rpm with the t/c off and I also tried just nailing it with t/c off and ran a 15.1. I have cheap rikon raptor Z-rated tires but they are new.

Do not brake TQ it.. Leave regular air pressure in tires.. VERY small "burn out", spin the tires over in the water box, pull up and heat the tires for around 5 seconds, street tires DO NOT like to be heated like DR/slicks, they will hook worse. Just take the slack out of the drive train, bring the RPMs up to around 750-800. Nail it when it is time. TC off always.

.1 in the 60' is roughly .2 off your ET.

Street tires suck on the track. My times were on MT 175/40/17 DR's with a 3600 stall. if you are on stock rubber with a stock stall, it's a whole different ball game. Short burn out to clean off the tires and go in just off idle. Oh and you really don't need the SFC's. They are just adding weight.

Your short time is the fastest part of the track ! One of my cars traps 135mph in the quarter. at 1/8th mile (660 ft) my mph is 104, so that means in 0 to 660ft im going 104mph and in the rest of the quarter im only gaining 31mph from the 1/8th mile on till the big end, weird lol!

remember........the gas pedal is not an on/off switch, think about it as rolling into the throttle, i've driven my buddy's car to a 1.89 60ft on bridgestone street tires

So you are saying just ease on to the pedal off of the line? For the other tips I will all take them into acount when I hit the track again next month.

you want to roll into the throttle, not just mash the gas pedal, you can usuallly feel when you're right on the edge of what the tires can take if you're comfortable with the car. i just powerbraked it up enough to put a load on the drivetrain and then roll into the throttle pretty quickly. works great for me no matter what i drive

To the OP, keep the SFC's, maybe GTO's don't need them but F Bodys do.

Are you driving thru the water box or around it? I see a lot of people with street tires roll right thru the water and drag water to the starting line with them.

I used to cut consistent 1.92 60' on street tires. I would pull around the water, spin the tires real quick to clean them off. Brake stall it to about 11-1200 rpms and stab the throttle.

Everyone usually says 1 tenth reduction in 60' equates to roughly 2 tenths on the big end whether they have tested that theory out or not but in my experiences it really varies. There have been times that it has held true and other time wheres it has been more like a 1 to 1 ratio and once in a blue moon even a 1 to 3 ratio. With that said I just wouldn't have your mind set on 1 tenth of the 60' equalling 2 tenths on the big end because that's not always the case and every car and setup is different. I would expect a low-mid 13 sec. pass corrected if you get that 60' down to about 2.0 or so, good luck.

It has held true to every setup I have had as well as many others I have seen. I don't talk out my ***.

It is a general rule of thumb and "roughly" accurate. Meaning .1 or .3 may very well be the case as well. Nobody said it was dead accurate very every situation.

I wasn't pointing you out just stating how generally that's what alot of people say and for the OP not to expect exactly a .2 change in ET per each .1 change in 60 foot since it does infact vary.
