Default skinny tires

I just bought a set of 15"x4" rims for the front of the car and I was wondering what would be the best choice of front tires for a street/strip car?
I've heard of people running KUMOs but I don't know what size the are. I was looking at the MT SR radials. I'm running a flame pattern type tread now and it drives great. So what is the best choices out there for me?

The M/T sportsmans are a good tire, if they're the heavier ply, rated for >3000 lb vehicle.

A lot of people run a metric radial, as they're rated for heavier cars.

here is the exact tire i run on my drag setup.

Holds up great!

The 165/80 tire is a common one for a 3.5-4 rim and can be found at mosty tire shops.

M/T and Hoosier both make nice front runner DOT legal tires but they cost a bit more. The sportsman fronts seem to wear out quicker than most regular street rubber. I tried a 205/75/15 on my 15 x 4 Billet Specialties that are on my Nova and they are about 27.5" tall so they may not work as well on an F-body.

I run a 26x7.5 4 ply M/T Sportsman on 15x4 Billet Specialties wheels. I've only got about 2k miles on them but they seems to be holding up pretty good.

I had the Metric radials and then one started to dry rot because they have been on the wheels for like 4 maybe 5 years so I switched to the Moroso DS-2's. They were around @120 a piece but the weight savings is worth it. Hopefully they last for 4-5 years like the other set of front tires did.

Remember a Moroso DS-2 tire isn't street legal, so if you want to run the car in anything requiring DOT tires, they won't pass, and you could get a ticket for them on the street.

What do you think, is it safe to run 4-ply Moroso DS-2 on 3700# car on old airstrip with bumps and all the rest? Not the usual smooth strip...
I'm a bit afraid to use them on an airfield

Do you value your life more than the weight savings of the tires? If so, I'd step up to the M/T 8ply at least.

I don't think I'm ready to order another pair of skinnies.
But, I chose not to run them on the airfield. Probably will put them on smooth surface though

2 & 4 ply street tires have been around forever. Driving over bumps would've bother me, shrapnel you have to dodge on the streets would make me more nervous.

Here is how you test: I was in on a track rental test session yesterday. Always throw out the first pass. (Stood up on the wheelie bars too hard anyway) Then ran 10.024, 10.011, 10.007. Made my change, went 9.954. Changed it back, went 10.004. (We call that A-B-A testing.) I called that one a five hundredths improvement. If your car won't repeat like that, your going to have a tough time knowing for SURE what something is worth.

New tuneup I have been wanting to try with my new heads & headers. Appeared to like it.
