How do you think a Dodge ram 1500 will pull??
Do you guys think a early 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 will pull a 24ft enclosed trailer? Reason I ask is Im trying to make the LTXshootout and my bud will loan me the truck and another guy will rent me the trailer. This to much to pull from Chicago to BG Kentucky and back ??

I know when I had my 04 Silverado 5.3 is sucked from light to light with my 22ft enclosed, but on the hwy was good.
I am sure the Dodge would work as long as it's mechanically in good order and you have trailer brakes.

I pulled a 24' enclosed trailer with a 2000 gmc 1500 on a 4.5 hour round trip. We had a scanner on it looking at tranny temps and they never got too hot, and this was on a very hilly trip. The truck has also pulled a 20' enclosed trailer on many many long trips.

Tow the enclosed...less detailing of the car is needed when you arrive! I pulled a heavy *** trailer with the wifes TB I6 last year...no problems here.

Open trailer you will be fine. I brought my car as far as MIR from central CT with my open car trailer and car in tow with my old truck, which was a rcsb 1500 with the little 4.7 motor, 3.55 gear, which wasn't even spec'd for towing.
It didn't like big hills, but got it done. I left it with the OD off most of the time, and kept it at about 65, the tranny never really shifted like that, it slowed itself good down hills too, my old open trailer did have brakes, and that helped alot.
An enclosed? I don't think so. The wind drag alone would probably make that truck cry pity for sure, nevermind the additional 2200 lbs. If it's an 8 ft bed, with a 5.7 it may be o.k., but if it's a little 4.7 motor'd truck, forget it. That thing will not be happy at all.
If you have the open car I think you'll be fine. Just don't try to push the pace too hard, and if you can turn the OD off, so the truck doesn't shift much and it will be fine. Hell I leave my cummins in 5th gear when towing, it never downshifts, maintain's 70 mph with NO issues regardless the hill, etc, plus with the exhaust brake, it slows itself REALLY good down hills and whatnot, to the point that it's almost too much sometimes.
