1998 Formula Firebird drag build-Bright Purple Metallic
So my build has already started but ill post the pics of when I got it and ill have to update it soon to its current state.
A little history on the car. Bright purple metallic was one of those strange colors they only had in 1998. To teh best of my knowledge, only 26 BPM 1998 Formulas were made, and only 3 of them being hardtop M6 cars like this one.
The car was purchased by Ryne Cunningham (Ryne@CMS owner of Cunningham Motorsports and an LS1Tech sponsor) to build as a purpose built race car. Ryne and his shop manager Mike put all of the work you see in these first pictures into the car as well as alot of metal removal that you dont see.
I bought a 1998 White Z28 Camaro and completely stripped it to start a build...as soon as it was stripped Ryne asked if id be interested in buying "Barney" as it was called by CMS. After going over the list of work it had done as well as brand new in box parts he included there was no way I could refuse it for the price. So I bought it from him and has it towed from the storage facility he had it stored at to my house.
Here are a few things it has:
Custom 10 pt cage(not sure of the fabricator but maybe Ryne can drop the name)
Aerospace brakes on all four corners(HD 4 piston on front)
Strange 9" w/ 40 spline axles, spool, aluminum center and 4.56 gears
^^Also included a used set of 4.10 gears
315/60/15 rear Hoosier drag radials
Weld prostars all the way around
Kirkey aluminum race seats
BNIB Madman manual steering rack kit
QA1 R front struts w/ 275 lb springs
Afco rear shocks
BNIB Crow harness
Brand new manual brake master cyl w/ line lock installed
New Burkhart rear sway bar
ABS delete kit w/ ss lines and block
So here are pics of when I got it home

They save alot of weight. They arent going on anytime soon. Next is cutting the cowl back so I can drop the motor in, then will put in some wolfe mini tubs to clear the tires and will cut out the t top well and drop wells while im back there. Ill probably cut out all the metal speaker area in front of the wheel wells. I would have already cut the front frame horns but im going to use a Burkhart bumper to mount a small front mount fuel tank.
