What are you guys using for an engine diaper?
I learned yesterday that my home track is requiring them for all cars reguardless of ET for the Friday night racing program. They also said next year it will most likely be required for every event, even test and tunes. My car is street driven so I'm hoping I can find something that fits well and won't melt or creat heat soak issues.

What track do you run at? Seems like a good way to reduce car count requiring something like that for street cars.

Up here my track doesn't have the staff or equipment to efficiently clean up oil downs. One cleanup can take 30 minutes or more depending on how far they went. But ours is 10.0 and faster will need them. I was thinking the same thing about it reducing real streetcars that are driving the hour to get there. Right now my car is the only fast street car to do that.

Raceway Park in Indianapolis is my home track. They are coming out with a new program for Friday nights with pro mods, outlaw 10.5, true street, limited street and index classes. They say they are requiring the diapers to keep the track prep top notch and to keep that racing going to keep the fans in the stands. I understand the logic especially for the fast cars going 9's and quicker. But I just don't see many guys with 10-13 sec street cars(running in the index classes) putting diapers on their cars to run at these events. I agree it will reduce the car count. One more strike against the entry level racer who drives his car to the track. They need to make it easier for the entry level guys to race to keep the sport going.

Its fustrating having to deal with a diaper when I designed my car to run low 10's so I wouldn't have to need a diaper, 8pt roll part, window net etc.

I put them on every car we build. I usually dont have any problem with my customers when I tell them its a safety device. You get oil under your tires from the motor you will wish you had one on the car.

I don't disagree that they are a good idea for an all out race car, but not very convienent for a street driven car. Makes oil changes a PITA. Tracks need to think about the consequences of something like this. They want good car counts but make it harder and more expensive for entry level racers.

are those heat resistant enough for a turbo down pipe to be ran without it burning a hole in it?

$309 plus shipping for that particular diaper. LS1 SFI 7.2 ballistic diaper with kevlar straps.

If the turbo down pipe isn't touching the diaper, then you would be ok. If it is touching, then we would need to goto the more expensive, all kevlar, engine diaper.

Madman. Do you guys ever run an electric oil temp gauge?

Since I will be driving an hour each way, I'm going to put one where the low oil level sensor is on my stock pan and wasn't sure if a provision will be needed in the diaper or not.
I was going to get it installed before I order the diaper.

I dont run one. I am more worried about trans and water temp.

is there any way to run the tubing to the sensor close to the block (within reason)? if so, the diaper will just fit around it. You really wouldn't want to have any holes or major slits in the diaper, which would risk spilling oil in the event the diaper is being used for it's purpose.

I ran a diaper with an electric oil temp gauge...the cover just went over the sender.

On a "street" car you may want to add an external oil cooler though.
