Default Need pics of pin on firebird hood mounts please!

Alright guys, I know I know beating a dead horse.

I know racecraft makes really sweet rails for Camaros, but I am a Firebird guy and the shape of the fenders are different, racecraft even says they cant be adapted.

Tax return just came in and I need to order my VFN hood extended to the windshield. I just dont know how to mount it. I know rails are stronger than brackets but I also am not paying a ton of money for custom brackets.

So give me some ideas here! I have searched until my fingers hurt and found many threads but few pictures. If you have Camaro rails adapted to the Firebird then IM REALLY INTERESTED!!!!! And if you have brackets im also interested in seeing how you did it and how the hood came out.

Thanks!

Here's the only useful thread I found when I thought about getting a pin-on a couple weeks ago. I've decided to keep my bolt-on for now.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-raci...lled-pics.html

I've also heard of people buying the Racecraft rails for the Camaros and modifying them to work on Firebirds.

Either way if you end up making your own brackets post up some pics, I'd like to do this in the near future.

yep that was a tease. I pm'd that guy asking where he got them. They were on the car when he bought it and the previous owner had used the camaro rails and modified them somehow, I'm waiting on pics.

Got a response from racecraft today stating that they have never made dzus rails for ls1 firebirds and it will be at least a number of months before they will look into doing so. Yada yada us firebird guys are on our own.

I'm going to end up ordering the camaro rails and modify them. If I can do a mini tub install hopefully I can mount a friggin hood.

I adapted the 93-97 Camaro rails to work on my 94 Firebird

Give me a day or two, I'll snap some pics of how I did it

It's not the prettiest I've scene, but they work

I'm sure you could make them work on the 98-02 Birds

I ended up doing my own also a couple years ago, so if Racecraft would make them it wouldn't do me any good.

I talked to mark at racecraft the other day, and ask about the rails on firebirds he said that was on hold. Its wasn't cody but another guy in the shop that made the rails, that knew more about fitting the camaro ones on a firebird. I forgot his name, but ask if i wanted to talk to him about that. I really didnt so never talked to him, did you call or Email them? MrElectric03

csjta2- did you use the bolt on rails of the 3rd gen, 1 piece?

https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-raci...ch-diet-3.html
check my build thread I took alot of pics of them, UI used the bolt on, ans they have a lot of the little 6-32 or whatever hardwear nuts and bolts. That was spaced just right fot the flat spots in the lip on the fenders for them to fit. I dout all of them would line up with a spot to ptu all the bolts on the firebird fenders. But you don't need everyone, I think you could get them to work. But I haven't seen any of the other styles too?

I emailed them. I wouldn't think it would be hard to fit the extra curve of the hood but then just mod them to fit the fenders. I'm going to mod them, they look alot better than brackets IMO and can't be too hard. I'll have to try to have the patience to make a how-to.

they come in a tube with a slight bent, you put the fitting bend in as you bolt them on, so its not that at all.

Oh cool that's good to know. I figured if nothing else I can cut the lower portion, bend it as needed, and weld them back. Even if I need to use brackets for the front and rear but can at least get the side rails to work that would be nice.

Ok. Here are some pics of mine. If you want closer or specific pics just let me know. I'm glad to help. Side note. I have removed the cowling to add my kurt urban water vaper system. But I do normally have it in place.

Thanks for the pics frozen! That answers alot of questions. The one thing I am curious about though is how high does your hood sit? The rails look kinda high but that's easily changed. All in all it looks really good.

I'm going to order the vfn 5" sloped and extended hood tonight and probably order the side rails and dzus fasteners as well.

Camaro rails cut down a little.

Mr.elec. I'll get some of those pics up after work. I think I also have some pics of them still attached to the hood when I blew it off last summer at going through the traps. So I had to reshape these ones when I put them back on.

This is what they look like attached to the hood. These pics are thanks to the hood ripping off. I have the video link in my sig.

Here is how the hood fits on the car.

Thanks for the pics of the hood frozen. It looks pretty good. Im surprised the hood was still usable after that, the thing flew pretty high.
