Default All options for bumper support?

Im thinking about starting a little diet for the car. I wanna take off the front and rear supports but I need a replacement (mostly street car) I was doing a search and I know Burkhardt makes them but at around $250 for just the front to save 10lbs is kinda out of this world.
I saw a couple posts that midwest chassis might make them but doesnt show on the website. Do they make them? Also what are all my options? Who makes them?

If $250 is too much, buy a tig welder, tube notcher, tube bender, plasma cutter or vertical bandsaw to cut the plates out, oh and the $75 in 4130 they used. It's pretty cheap really.

I thought the same thing. But I bought one anyways after talking to them.

Like BAD SS said I don't have some of those tools. It may seem like a waste of money now but think of what it allows you to do. I can easily run my intake tube out my front bumper. The things I can do later is mount an intercooler or a fuel cell. It's NHRA approved for wall thickness to hold fluids. I will try and get pictures with the bumper on in my thread it does fit perfect!

Ok, good points. This weights 10lbs? In the sticky it says the stocker only weighs 20lbs?! Is that right? What does the stocker actually weigh? Some guys say 30lbs

I don't remember. Never weighed it. I would say between 20-30 is a good estimate. The weight is just an added benefit to the room.

Depends on the car and if your retain fog lights. The issue is that if you bought all that stuff for one job then its a waste but if your into fabrication. Most times you have access or already have a good amt of the stuff there.

Using lighter meterial is best but there are guys out there using the heaviest stuff out there and not thinking about the minimal difference it made.

Same thought process when making fiberglass parts. If done wrong can make a part heavier then the one it's replacing.

Question

Question for you guys. Midwest Chassis makes supports but they are not nhra approved. If I had these supports on my car would I not be alowed on the track for simple street night? These supports are thin wall 1" .065 that runs on the back side of the bumper and goes to the stock bumper brackets.

Generally its when you start to get into "Class" Racing, then there could be an issue due to safety.

For a simple street night your fine.

Thanks for the reply. I may just go this route but I maybe still be a little concerned about street driving with such a small bar. It would be nice to find a used burkhart that hasnt been chopped into.

The rear is about 6 pounds and is 171.00 bare and 191.00 PC. They are on the Tax sale until 4/15. Look for the rear support in an upcomming GM HighTech article.

Question

Another question What do you guys do with your rear bumper supports? Do you replace them with anything? Would rear bumper sag if there was none?

I left mine alone for now. From what I remember the weight difference isn't much at all and that would be the only benefit.

There is a good bit of weight in the rear support. Gm put in a large plastic honeycomb mounted to a thick peice of stamped steel.
