So if you bought an entire Moser rear with an Eaton posi and 33 spline axles...MOSER DOES NOT MAKE A SPOOL THAT FITS. I know...i couldnt believe it either. I called moser and they actually refered me to Strange. They make the correct spool with the correct spline angle and the correct spline engagement length. Also..your gears will not work with the spool/ That EAton posi is a 3 seiers cariier. All spools are 4 series carriers. So youll need new gears too if you go spool.
So then the spool in summit is not the proper one then? its part number MSR-5S1233. Made for 12-bolt and 33-spline. Also my Eaton was a Series 4 Carrier

What he means is... if you got a 3-series carrier originally from Moser, then the axles you got were not compatible with the spool that Moser sells.
If you got a 4-series carrier with the Eaton posi, then the Moser spool will work fine (worked in mine). But if you got the 3-series (for example, with 3.73 gears), then you'll need to get the Strange spool.

Right...thanks for the clarification. JR...your probably ok on getting the Moser spool.
Conrad...I think your 12 bolt with spool should hold up fine. Its a tough choice wether or not to sell that 12 bolt for a 9 inch. The good thing is that 12 bolt is damn near as good as cash in the F bod world. Your unlikely to lose too much money selling it.
Best thing about the 9 inch is you could have two or three setups ready to go. One for a street setup with a posi...one for the track with a spool etc.
My buddy just built his 9 inch out of junkyard parts and has bought a ton of parts for it at swap meets. Gears, housings, axles,,whatever.

i still broke a took off my ring gear on my 12 bolt, so that had nothing to do with the posi. the 9 inch gears a thicker plus the locker is very strong.

I just got my spool and 3.73 gear setup. Give Strange a call as they offer the correct spool for your application, Moser does NOT. I think the spool was around $170 or so.

it wouldnt be to bad, under 200 for spool, under 200 for a master berring kit ect
plus fluid and gears.
you wont have abs anymore so getting the nice block from billingsley racing is a looks wise must.
other then that it is just labor unless you do it yourself
