Default what do you guys torque your drag wheels to?

I recently had a mishap at the track changing from 28 to 26" tires and twisted a stud off. They were torqued at 80 ft/lbs. Is this too much? I put anti-sieze on the studs and lugs hoping this will resolve that problem from happening again

Just seeing what the propper ammount would be. I use both racestar and draglite wheels.

Thanks

Sounds like you had a bad stud if you snapped it at 80 ft-lbs. where they ARP studs or just stock studs.

I torque my 1/2 studs to 100ftlbs

Im using 2 1/2" long arp 12x1.5mm. It was wierd the lug nuts screwed on by hand but when taking them off the lugnuts came aparts and siezed on the studs.

Talking $.02 worth..

Lugs were of a quality that would not take the torque. This distorted, [pulled], the threads, and when you attempted removing them, they locked up.
I'm betting they were not of the same quality as the ARP studs...Can you say "Ho Chi Min"??
Another problem I've dealt with is, the OD of the "el cheapo" lugs is not concentric w/ the thread bore. This results in the OD galling up in the bore of the wheel. Some I've seen were so bad, I could just look at the end and see the oblong OD...
Lastly, the lug pattern on the axle is fubar, and/or the studs are not at 90* w/ the axle flange....

Lots of "stuff" to consider.

Running Billet Specialties on my Nova and torque them per their specs (or close to it):
75 lbs on 15 x 4 fronts, 85 lbs on 15 x 8 rear.

get the lugs and washers from Billet??
If so, take 1-2 of them off, and see what the end of the hex and the ID of the washer looks like....

I always torqued mine 65 I. The front and my 1/2 studs I know the rear to 75lbs.

Torque my 5/8 studs on the dragster to 85lbs. Both aluminum wheels.

No way would I torque mine over 95lbs, but that's my opinion.

the Streetlites on my 55. After the install and torque, I found that the ends of the hex corners and the ID of the washers were galled up, w/ metal shards torn out of the washers.
Got some detailed pics, sent them to Billet Spec...Got the usual bullshit reply:
"We've never seen that", and referred me to Gorilla.
Gorilla said "those are not our washers. I'm sending you a new set of lugs and our washers."
The new washers have a much smaller ID and allow better load distribution when torqued.
IMO, the original combo did not allow for proper loading of the fasteners, as a good part of the applied torque was used in overcoming the friction caused by the lug/washer problem.

Definitely go with the wheel manufacturer's recommendation.
