If you are talking about the ears (or tabs, or whatever you want to call them) that wrap around the windshield, they are produced big and need to be trimmed. If they make them the exact size you need they are too fragile for shipping. You can trim them a million different ways, but take your time! Go very slow, and take a little off at a time. Test fit it often to see how the progress is going.

I think hes talking about the lip that runs down about 1/2" along the entire sides.
Mine is completely removed. the side edges have no lip at all and the bottom of the hood rests on the dzus rails

don't cut the rails and try to fit the lip over them. I did that, ended up having the grind the inside corner of my VFN street sunoco (normal) pin on with a 1/4 sand roll. And it still kinds locked in over the rails. And was about to brake the lip off easy taking the hood off, if you were not super carfull, in the only the 10-15 times test fitting it. I got it to fit with the lip, but it didnt fit that great, was still binding in 5 -10 other spots, and I would have for sure cracked the **** out of the lip, damaged the hood, and the fenders. I spend a bunch of time tring to get it to work, thinking it would be better for my street car. Robbie (promod1955) warned me not to bother and just cut the lip off.
I finally did and the hood fits 100 times better and easier/safer. The little bumps of the Dzus locate the hood fine, I've removed it 100 times by myself and its fine. The hood in more flimsy, but its still strong. Its only 14 pounds so if anything happens like it flys off, falls of the car, droped, stepped on. The lip is not going to make it any stronger.
So I now have my rails trimmed down (used a big bench top metal shear) so the body gap looks a little more stock then having the alum rail shining thu the 1/8 body line. But that doesn't matter with a dzus 3/4 in the body line. lol

Alot of it depends on how your dzus rails are made. if you were to make a little round bar frame that sat inside the lip, and the fastners were inward a little bit more then where they need to be with the racecraft rails, you may not have to take the lip off, but for the amount of work it would take to do it may not be worth while. Best bet would be to start off by taking 1/2 the lip off right away, that way there's still some of it left. Trimming along the back is a pita, and needs to be done carefully or you may take too much off. Depending on what you need for airflow, you may or may not want it tight tight against the windshield as well. Best bet is to test fit, then take a small amount off, 1/8th of an inch say for the initial fitment cut and see where that gets you, then start going a 1/16th at a time until it fits right.
It's not something you can do in a couple hours, even with 2 people it's at least an afternoon if not more. Take your time with it... putting material back is going to be ALOT harder then taking it off.
