Default Softening some mildly aged drag tires

I have some Nitto 555R and M/T ET streets that both were in storage for a little too long I think.

Does anyone know a cheapish effective method to softening them up some safely?

I've heard GOOP hand cleaner works and it's only a buck a tube at the dollar store. I've also heard diesel fuel, bleach, and paint thinner but don't know how safe they are.

We prep our jr dragster tires with Charlies soap. Alot of people just use wd-40 and rub it in with a scotch bright pad as well.

I heard diesel fuel would work, i would think the paint thinner would dry them out though.

Thanks, sounds like there might be some truth to it then.

I know some locals use that Xylone or whatever solvent. I forgot if you do it in the sun of the shade, but they use a brush to paint a few coats on and let it soak/evaporate.

Wonder if this would help out the junk street tires sold in the 295/50r15 size any? Everything is 420+ treadwear and about useless.

I guess if you were to treat them every time you used them. I doubt anything you were to use would penetrate deep enough to soften all the tread compound.

Look up tire softening for go-cart tires. Not sure what its made of but will make a very hard go-cart tire in the 80 durometer range drop to the low 40's high 30's when treated good enough and heated. It soaks right in and with heat gets the tires softer. I have been told that some of the grudge racers around my area are treating their DR's with it to get some extra grip. I know back in the day we used to use creosol that was used to treat light poles on our go-cart tires. That stuff would soften them so good that you could only use the tires for 4 races and they were worn out. Been a long time ago though. Here is a link for some homemade softening recipes from go-cart racers.

Mods if the link should not be please remove it. I was just trying to help out.
