Nittos are good until you get a stall or gears. It was great before I did the converter and now I need different tires.

Never ran the new Nittos. But I've cut 1.68 60 ft times with the 17" 555rs. I believe that a bolt on car can hookup with Nittos. But when you start adding the rwhp the MTs have the avantage.

I have Nitto 555Rs with motive 4.10 gears and over 400ft/lbs of torque and my car gets out just fine...at least on the street.

Here is the best advice I can give ya cause I ran them on my T/A

340hp/350tq M6 with 315 555r drag radials I can tell you now that you got to HEAT the hell out of these things do a GOOD burnout, drop the PSi to about 18 and start from there if you cant hook lower it 1 psi a run.

they wont hook worth a **** cold, I only had one time where they dead hooked from a 4k rpm launch but my ar bogged down and I never got any better than a 2.0 sixty and I never got any faster on them than I did with my street tires, but i also didnt get alot of practice with them and was still learning the car.

now I will have 540rwhp and will have to re learn the car all over again, i will probably keep the 315s on there until I find something else better for the street, but I am definetly switching to different setup for drag

but the key point though is they did DEAD HOOK at a 4k launch on a M6 with a few mods

but if you got the NTo5 then you will do even better mine were the 555r which is a glorified street tire they have the same tread pattern as the regular 555r just a little softer compund if you want a true DRAGRADIAL get something that just has a line or two in it to be consiered a radial dot legal,

I'm confused, which ones are better? Lol! Honestly, if you plan on ever buying a MT just skip it and buy a Hoosier Drag Radial. They weigh 7 pounds lighter (each) than the same size Mickey Thompson.

Everyone seems to agree that a true track tires is by far better. M/T Hoosier or M & H.

I feel the nitto is nearly worthless but some feel it is a worthwile upgrade.

Interesting. How do they compare for wear?

I would rate them right along with the M/T or maybe a little worse. My car is in the shop now (TRZ Motorsports) getting a 25.2 cage and some other stuff an every car has Hoosiers. A car will pick up MPH when switching over to a Hoosier and work better on the track. They sell both kinds of tires but the Hoosier seems to be the competitive edge. For instance, they convinced Kevin Neal to switch his Outlaw 275 Mustang over from a slick to a radial with great success. The only changes were the tires and the car went the fastest its ever been and won Outlaw 275 the first day the car went on radials.

Which are the ones you are referring to? Quick Time Pro radial or a different name?

I had some 275/60 14" hoosiers but they were a bias ply and I didn't get to try them because the wheels I pulled from a Pontiac had a damn Ford bolt pattern.

IMO, I wouldn't buy anything other than the DR 555r's for my DD and once a month track car. I got 17K miles out of the last setup which included daily WOT runs with my 799/MS4/LS1 setup and my 1+ year old 408 setup. On the street, I only spin during a power shift, regardless of ambient and tire temp.

About 6 months ago, I bought some 18s with street tires and anytime I blipped the throttle, the *** end would come around to say hello. Too dangerous and I immediately took them off and sold them.

I haven't had success with them at the track yet but I also haven't heated them up properly either. Plus, I can get the DR 555r's for around $140/tire installed - for 17K+ miles, for a tire that ALWAYS hooks on the street and CAN hook at the track with a proper burnout.

It's not the Quicktime Pro Radial it's the D.O.T. Drag Radial. Here's a link to what tire I'm speaking of http://www.jegs.com/p/Hoosier/Hoosie...60685/10002/-1

I think the average gain is a loss in 7 pounds if you run 275/60's on the car. I lost about 11 pounds each because I had 295/55/15 MT's (35 pounds) and I switched to 275/60/15 Hoosiers (24 pounds). It was nice shaving 22 pounds of rotational weight and I believe that's why cars pick up MPH.

Putting this back on track, the original question was for information on the Nitto NT05r 275/40-17 drag radials not 555r's and hoosiers. I bought them and will have some results probably Friday.

I just ordered the NT05R's and will let you know how they work. 285-40-18's for 270. each. couldn't see paying 320 each for a 305-40-18 MT. I wouldn't run the 555r's they are for a near stock build car.

The problem is the 18" size rim. My choice is limited.
