Default nitto's vs mt's

Hey guys I'm debating on either getting Nitto NT05R Drag Radial Tire -275/40R17
or Mickey Thompson Performance Tires 3743R 275/40R17. I found the nittos for $370 shipped and MT's are 450 shipped. Does anyone know where i can get them cheaper, and which one would you go with and why thanks.

I would just get Mickey drag radials, the Nitto is nothing but a street tire. I have ran both and the mickies are better hands down...

Nittos are a waist of time. Buy a real tire or stick with your street tires. Simple as that.

Nitto's are trash if you want traction. MT's or BFG's are the way to go. Hoosier makes a nice one too. Just avoid nitto altogether.

Mickey Thompsons work the best performance wise compared to a Nitto. Nittos are a waste of money if you plan on doing any racing where hooking counts. The downside of the Mickey is they wear out fast compared to a Nitto.

You must have gotten all the traction for every nitto. They put it all in your tires, and left none for anyone else.

BFGs are no better then nittos. If you want a track tire you need to buy a track tire. I have never talked to someone at the track who said they would buy another set of BFGs or nittos. Everyone would buy another set of M/T or Hoosiers, or M+Hs.

I've used both and MT Street Radials are by far the superior tire when it comes to traction. I pulled off some 1.5x 60's with them.

Nittos are a better all around tire MTs are a better hooking tire. All depends on what your main goals are. I have Nittos on my street rims and MTs on my drag rims.

You guys do realize he is talking about the newer NT05 drag radial, not the harder compound 555R right?

And for what it's worth I can make my car stick just as well on a 555R as a M/T so far.

The point is, if you follow any drag radial racing, are any of them using a Nitto? The answer is a resounding **** NO. You want to hook up a radial it's Hoosier or M/T!

That's well and good for a car used primarily for racing. If the OP is looking for a tire for his street car, there are other alternatives which will be a better compromise of traction vs treadwear and price seeing as how he is likely to need to replace them more often.

No doubt the M/T is a great tire, but it's not the only option for a real street car.

Even for a street car I would still recommend the M/T over the Nitto any day. I couldn't handle the lack of traction at the track. I would not drive the Hoosier too far on the street though!

Well the car is just a nice day driver. Longest drive I'd say would be 90 miles to one track, other track is like 50-60 miles. yes i know 555r's suck was asking about the nt05 dr's compared to mt's, yes it seems one sided but again how many mt fans have used the new nt05 tires? all i find searching are good news for nt05 but nothing really recent.

I remember reading this a few months ago:

http://www.superchevy.com/technical/...t/viewall.html

I would be willing to try them and keep $100 in my pocket. If they don't work out, next time get the M/T.

Ive seen nitto's run 11's no problem with 1.6x 60"s. Not sure why so many people hate them. I love my 555R 315's, they dont spin unless I power brake my car.

My buddy is running 275 555R's with 400rwhp, and his tires dont even spin on the street...

Im sure theres a "threshold" where there is too much power for a Nitto to stick, but for a majority of cars, Nittos work just fine, last longer, and are much cheaper.

And 05R's are $366 shipped on www.discounttiredirect.com (they have free shipping)

I think this discussion has been beat to death in other threads. It all comes down to this: Nitto= Inferior Traction with Superior Tire Life, MT/Hoosier= Superior Traction with Inferior Tire Life. I don't know this car's setup but considering it's on 17's and not in drag mode I would say the Nitto would work fine. Maybe elaborate on the car's setup/goals and we can give you a suggestion based on your needs.
